I finished "murdering" out my V yesterday so today was time for a wash and some new pictures. I also de-badged it. I got tired of snagging my microfiber towels on them. Thinking of tinting next but want to make sure I pass state inspection.

I'm no photographer, but here are a few shots.

Seen this car on two forums today, yea tinting the windows with the car being black is the ticket. :)

It's on 4 actually Carl :)

I want to have the windows tinted and the window trim wrapped with vinyl. The Plastidip works well but I'm not 100% happy with the window trim. I'm just worried about passing inspection with the tint. No one can seem to tell me how much is legal in PA. Even my brother who is a cop said the officer needs to see in from 3' away. That leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I guess I'll speak with the guys at my inspection station.

No one can tell you the law because you can read the PA law several ways, it's different at night vs. day time, if you wear glasses i.e. eye problem you can get a cert in PA (each car) to have aftermarket tint, see your doctor ;) Many inspection places are fine with aftermarket tint, just check with them first so there is no question

I want my car blacked out! problem is, its silver. should I just have the whole car dipped in a vat of black paint and be done with it? lol seriously, i've been toying with the idea of a wrap but then I have to deal with all the chrome either being plasti dipped or trim taped. From a painters perspective, will it just be easier to take it apart and paint everything black?

Efin sweet or bad ass? I can't decide.

I would defiantly do the fog light bezels.

When you get the 30% tint, have them do the front and rear emblems with light tint also.

If after your inspection and you tint, then get written up for them (fix it ticket), you can just go to a lighter tint on the front windows.

I cant think of anything else exterior wise. Maybe adding bat wings :-)

Murdered out.....?..... I still see red reflectors and tails on the back, nobody mentioned tha;)t? Black'm out man, car looks sweet.

PS

In PA an inspection station doesnt have the rights to fail you for window tint. Trust me been there done that. The only thing they CAN do is advise you "thats not legal" but they cant fail you for it...... the statute for it is so vague that not even a cop "really knows" the law. Its up to an officers discresion to say whether its too dark or not.
Hope this may help and not confuse you HAHA.

I tinted my CTS the day after I bought it %20, and Im going to get my wifes car tinted tomorrow at %35.
As soon as I get a chance to go to the eye doctor I will have my paper signed so there are no discrepancies over it. Im a welder so I get flash burn alot, therefore I can be blind to light for hours at a time after work.
In the mean time the only time I drive my car is when my 11 month old son is with me, and tint makes life much easier for him to go to sleep. Whether or not a cop would have compassion and understand that I dont know, so I play it safe and dont do anything stupid when I drive ;).

Gorgeous! I have ordered more Plasti-dip as I am going to redo the chrome. The two grills came out pretty good. Since you can remove Plasti-dip so easily, it allows for "mulligans." I am no golfer but I think that's the right word, isn't it?

In michigan tint is 35% or more (More % that is) on the front door windows. Now, Talking to a few local and state cops I know this is very subjective. State cops HATE tint. Local cops are way more forgiving. But with that said they all said the type of car that is tinted makes a difference. A V didnt bother any of them as long as you are not driving excessive speeds or racing. If the car that is tinted might be more often driven by a higher risk group (youth), its going to get a lot more attention from the popo. Very subjective.

SleeperCTSV
08-17-12, 09:12 AM
To knowledge, Michigan does not allow tint on the front windshield and both front side windows unless it is just a small strip at the top. This was 3 years ago for my g8 so they may of changed it since then but it is unlikely.

Must be nice. Im PA were stuck with %70..... who the f*ck tints windows at %70 !?

PA is very grey on their tint laws, its basically up to the officers disgresion.

I stand corrected, no tint on front door glass or windshield except 4" strip on top. However, conversations with cops (local and state) still stands true. Depends what you drive and very subjective.

Screw it. I'm going with 20%. I'm not worried about getting pulled over. There are not many cops where I live and my brother is a lieutenant in a neighboring town and while I have been pulled over, I have never gotten a ticket. I was more concerned about passing inspection but the pace where I get my car inspected told me as long as the windshield and lights are not tinted, they will pass it.

CTS4MATION
08-19-12, 12:10 AM
Yea, 20% is nice. Thats what I have on mine, and thats what was on my last car.

The only time Ive got pulled over and they said something about my tint was when I was younger and they still made 2 1/2%..... THAT was dark!

As long as you are not acting like a criminal or a kid trying to hide a 6 pack and some weed you will be good. IF you get pulled over for whatever, do the cops a favor and drop your driver and passenger windows so that he can see what you are doing. They just get nervous if they can't see you. Also, if you have the ultraview your fronts will look lighter than a non roof car. I went 20% rear and back window and 35% fronts and they are PLENTY dark. Almost wish I went 50% on front doors.

Stillborn
08-19-12, 04:10 PM
larry hit the nail on the head. always drop all your windows when you get pulled over, the cops will appreciate your obedient servitude and act less like a dick. plus the tinted windows are now off his radar because they aren't in his line of sight, works every time, and i've had 20% on all my cars for two decades and only once got a ticket because i failed to put down the passenger side windows.

Mike02z
08-26-12, 10:42 AM
I am having 20% tint installed on Tuesday. They are also tinting the tail lights and the third brake light with film vs paint so I can reverse it if need be. I was not real happy with the way the Plasti Dip came out around the door window trim so I'm having them wrapped as well. It looked fine from the outside but I would see unevenness when looking out the mirrors and it was driving me nuts! I went with the glossy vinyl around the windows to match the paint. I should have pictures up Tuesday night. I hate leaving my car for 8 hours, but I'm not waiting around. My tint guy says the 3rd brake light is a PITA and that alone may take him 2 hours. He knows how anal I am and knows it needs to be perfect.

Tail lights are being blacked out, as are all marker lights, windows getting 20% tint. I'm using plasti dip on the front fogs and the gray inserts so what else is left? Not tinting the windshield or the front lights as it is my daily driver so if that is what you need to call it "murdered" than I guess you're right, it's just a black car.

Mike02z

I am tinting the tails. The windows were tinted today and the trim around the window was wrapped with gloss black vinyl along with tinting the front and rear caddy emblems. The tails will be done tomorrow but the car is dirty so won't get pictures up until the weekend after I wash it. The 20% tint looks great. It is not as dark as I expected. With the roof shade open it does not look dark at all.

OK, changed my mind. Here are 2 crappy pictures...

IMHO, you should paint the grey plastic rear valance and foglight buckets raven black.
I think that would complete it and, as a bonus, you won't get wax marks on the plastic anymore.

Sorry litig8r187. To the gentleman who said my car was not even close to "murdered", your car would be closer but not good enough. Your badge still has color and you have not dangerously tinted your windshield or headlights. Also, your exhaust pipes are still shiny. Looks like there is some color on those rear marker lights and the white in your license plate has to go... :) Epic fail to v-caliber.:stirpot: J/K

Seriously, your car looks great. I did the fogs and the front lower valance today.

Yo mike, you're in WC? I'm going to be down there at Oakes detailing getting my ceramic finish put on. I'm from Pottstown/phoenixville. We should link up sometime. Do you have a good tuner down there? Was looking at Phoenix performance up here since its so close, gonna do the 650hp kit

Mike02z
09-05-12, 10:07 PM
I'm in Bucks County...Not too far from New Hope. Phoenix performance is good. They are the only guys I'd use to align my cars. My buddy who races swears by them. As for tuners in this area, there are a lot of good ones. I use ECS over in Creamridge NJ. They only work on LSx cars. I have not done any engine mods to my V yet other than an Air Raid CAI but ECS has done work on my 08 Corvette. After 4 years, I'm still happy with their work and Doug tuned the heck out of my 08. I highly recommend ECS.

I actually am finally 100% done with my blackening. I sprayed the rear valance matte back over the weekend. Unfortunately it has been raining and I have been working ever since. I hope to get it washed and pictures taken this weekend.

Thanks. The finish is Rejex. I used a clay bar then 3 step polishing with a RA followed be 3 coats of Rejex.

While I like Rejex, I'm going back to Zaino. Since I have used both, here are my Pro's and Con's for each:

Rejex Pros:
Easy to apply. Do not have to put on super thin.
Much cheaper. I got 2 16 oz bottles for 19.99
Easy to remove
Easy to find online

Rejex Cons:
Surface is not as buttery smooth as Zaino
Does not repel insects as well as Zaino
Must wait 12 hours between coats.

Zaino Pros:
Buttery smooth surface
Nothing sticks to this.
Less work to remove than a traditional wax.

Zaino Cons:
Can be costly if you use multiple products (ZFX, Z5, Z2 etc.)
Must be put on VERY thin or is an issue to get off.
Must wait at least 12 hours between coats (6 if you use ZFX)
Takes more time to remove than Rejex.
Need to buy from a local distributor or from the Zaino store (SOL if you live in New Jeresy. You cannot order from the Zaino store.)

Leather in a bottle ? I'm looking for a good leather product for my V. If that is what the product you're talking about is. This is my only regret with my purchase of the last month the exterior is the try Tri coat tint red , which I love and will be trying the Zaino, and the interior is that light gray color, looks nice but is being a bitch to to keep clean. I have the seats all wrapped up with towels now until my seat covers come in. I wish the interior was darker. anyways any recommendations on leather treatment andcleaner would be appreciated.

Dude, unknot those panties. You have 7 posts and you're already picking a fight? Not a great way to make friends here.

Some of us don't use Facebook so we cannot view your pictures. I don't have an issue with MZ, I just chose not to use Facebook. If you want many of us to see your pictures host them someplace else as well as Facebook.

We don't own this site and so we are not responsible for what this site uses to advertise so your argument about this site advertising a FB link on the iPhone app makes no sense.

I probably would not have added the last sentence that TheDarkKnight did, but there is no need to start name calling. That is acting like a 13 year old in my opinion.

I'd like to see your pictures but cannot as long as the only place they are posted is Facebook.

Anthony, I was able to view your pictures on my work machine. Not sure why I could not see them from my home machine. That is going to look sick when done. Like the shaved door handles and filling in the trunk. Guessing you'll have a pop up license tag under the rear bumper? Tough to tell from the pictures but is that a deeper black your going with? Looks like they are doing a nice job. The paint that's done looks like glass. No more factory orange peel. My car does not have much, but enough to annoy me. Thinking of wet sanding it over the winter. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. How long until it's totally done?

Thanks for posting. It will be one of a kind when complete.

Mike, your ride as well its finish is really nice, it looks much nicer then what GM gave me. Just as an FYI, here is a video on a CTSV after wet sanding, not sure if its worth much, since as I'm sure you know, its something you have to see in person.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=norkpHe4-Yw

Ref to my car, you nailed almost all of it (everything is gone, including the spray nozzles on the bumper and hood) and all props go to the body shop. You are correct and it’s not the pic, the black seems darker then the GM finish was. In the next week or so it’s going to get wet sanded and buffed, and considering how amazing the finish is being only out of the spray booth, I can’t help but think that it’ll be blinding. I’ll ask them for you, if it’s the process, a certain paint or combo of both.

RaceMesh Grills is doing both front grills, as well a small matching one-piece grill for the rear valence, all in stainless round stock finished in black chrome. As well window molding has been black chromed. And to top it all off it's puts out about 750 hp.

I really like the CTS V and wanted to have some fun with it, and as you said, make it one of a kind. I hope it gives some ideas to everyone on the forum, everyone here seems to have the same bug as me with the CTSV, it's a lot of fun cruising around the forum. You can see the pics in my public FB album named “CTSV baby!” as well later this evening I’ll repost my pics on COF for anyone thats interested and doesn’t have FB.

car looks great! personally i wouldn't have done the v logo on the trunk lid since a) love that logo, b) the front caddy logo isn't blacked out. but i realize that would somewhat defeat the purpose of the desired end result. again, nice job, looks great!

I just installed my powder coated black lugs. The finishing touch will be powder coating the calipers black. Planning to do that over the winter.

My car is filthy now. I put 800 miles on it over the past 2 weeks and been through 5 states worth of grime :)

Hoping to wash it this weekend. Only change is the addition of the black powder coated lugs. Will be having the calipers powder coated black over the winter. Not real happy with the tinted rear lights so may have those painted instead. They look great from 5 feet away but up close you see some bubbles and creases. Not real happy with my tint guy at this point and I paid a ton of money to get those done and told him up front, if you can't get them perfect, don't bother. He told me after the job it would take 3 days in the sun for the bubbles and creases to come out and they did not. Debating about whether to try and make him fix them or just take it somewhere else. Thought process is if he could not do it right the first time, doubt he can do it right the second time.

+1 Lower that car...... Drop it like its hot! Eibachs for FTW. Best $224 you can spend on a V.

Do you have the eibach springs? How is the ride quality? And did you cut the front coils?

eibachs, 5 inches cut on fronts. Way better ride quality than stock. LOVE THEM.

5 inches cut? measured from where to where? I found this video on youtube and i think this car sits absolutely perfect, it says it's coupe springs with 1/3 of a coil cut off the front. i'm not sure what that'd be in inches or even how it's measured? (following the coil or vertically from the bottom up?)

measure from the end of the top coil 5" around the first coil circumference.

To each his own but I've never had any luck lowering my cars. There are either performance trade off's or practical trade off's. I like my V the way it sits. Easy to get in and out of (I'm a BIG guy), no issue with steep driveways or speed bumps and I can't push the car to it's limits now so lowering it to get better handling at high speeds would not do me any good. I give out way before the car does :)

that is the great thing about lowering the v2 with eibachs, it improves ride quality and looks over stock. with those who have been so gracious to share all their install knowledge for noise free lowering, its really an incredible mod for $224. there truly is no ground clearance issues compared to other lowered cars. i dont angle approach anything and i have gone over many speed bumps and approaches that i questioned or winced and not one rub to date and 6500 miles since install. i have yet to hear one negative review of eibachs that were installed correctly. in fact i will offer to help anyone install them correctly either locally or by phone, this mod is that good and i am that confident in its improvement.

Check out post #18. Lowered on D3 comps and blacked out, trim and all. Wheels powder coated semi gloss black. Also pullied, CAI, Corsas, ported snout and of course tune. Springs were not cut.
