: 2008 CTS4 oil consumption

I have an 08 CTS4 with the 3.6. The car uses a quart every 3000 miles. No leaks. No blue smoke on startup(I've checked it with the auto start.) No visible smoke at all actually. Local Cadillac dealer just gives me the runaround. The car is still under the powertrain warranty. I have done no repairs to the car at all to combat this situation. The car has about 55,000 miles on it. Is there anything I can do?

Perfectly acceptable IMO

One quart of oil in 3,000 miles is perfectly acceptable consumption ("oil mileage").

Go down to Seville/Deville and read up on the members who typically get 800 - 1500 miles/quart using 10W30, synthetic or conventional - in a V8 Northstar.

agreed. one quart in 3000 miles is nothing to be concerned about. My 2000 Maxima burned almost 2 quarts every 4000 miles or so. And she ran like a champ.

Badab!nG, I apologize for not getting to this thread sooner but I was out of the office 7/31. If you'd ever like me to investigate your oil concerns further, feel free to send me an email at Katie_Lucille@gmexpert.com!

http://fueleconomy.gov/ is also a very helpful site if you're looking for tips on how to drive efficiently, etc. (Check out the options under the "Save Money & Fuel" tab.) GM neither maintains nor endorses this site, however, and will not be responsible for its contents.

Best,

That is correct, that is considered acceptable. The main thing to do is trap that oil before it enters the intake air charge and causes issues. For more reading:

SC2150,

I've been considering installing the catch can and installing the Ice-o-lator. I've been reading about them on here.

SC2150,

I received my catch can and iceolater this week. Where to the hoses for the catch can plug into? I didn't get any instructions with it. I called your shop and left a message and never heard back. Thanks.

Had similar issues w my cts. I work at an oil shop and use a product sold buy us called tx7 its a liquid teflon additive reduces friction inside the motor i tried it w a fresh oil change w mobil1 and after 4500 miles i was only .5 quarts low which without the tx7 i would be atleast a quart and a half low. Also the product can be used in the trans, powersteering, and diffs. I split a quart between the powersteering and diff and a full quart in place of oil. Results are unbelievable also switch all drian plugs to magnetic drain plugs also helps a lot with metal shaving build up and lets.you know exactly how hard you drive your vehicle. Hope this helps out my fellow cts drivers i service a lot of your cars and its crazy how much oil the 3.6 burns.
