I have an 06 STS country club edition. Anyone ever removed the vinyl top from one of these? Anyone know where they get this version built?

Aftermarket. Usually done to hide damage like hail.

Under the cloth top, there is a fibreglass layer thats put over the factory body. This fibreglass top is held in place by alot of screws, so if you remove it, you'll have alot of holes to fill (over 20 most likely), then the roof will have to be repainted. Its not a cheap or simple removal, and if you don't like it, you'd be better off selling that one and getting another one with an unmolested roof than trying to undo the aftermarket carriage top.

Padded tops were invented so that cars that came down the assembly line with ripples in the roof didn't have to be scrapped.

On certain cars, such accessories can be attractive. I don't consider the STS one of these.

Make it a convertible; there are several professionals in Florida.
