Hey guys! Been a cadi guy for awhile now. Have owned 4 now, last one being an '05 STS. The '05 we had only owned since Feb. The
'05 was a sacrifice to rid our roads of a drunk driver that 't' boned us who was travelling down a 1 way street the wrong way. Anyway, not sure as of yet whether it is getting written off yet but want to have something ready to go if they do. Looking at an '06 DTS with 148,000 KM for $9750. Going to look at it this weekend. I had a n* in my '01, so I now the basics. Just want to know anything that this '06 model has for major problems that I need to look out for.
Check to see if the Head light Ballasts were replaced. The headlights flickered and died on those models. I had mine replaced and everything is fine now.
The 2006 was the first year of the final body style, so there may be some gremlins to chase. However, overall the car is very reliable.
I had a ton of little things go wrong in my first few years of ownership. Headlights flickering, heated/cooled seat burnt out, tire pressure sensors (all replaced but still messed-up). I had some real issues with the car and it was in the shop all the time- they replaced half of the car trying to solve it- but in the end it was just a little wire that was shorting out and causing a tom of problems. Once they replaced the right harness I have not had a single problem---except for those pesky tire pressure gauges!
I'm at 120,000 miles now and the only real problems I am having is a minor oil leak (which sometimes burns on a hot part under the car and makes a little stinky smell), I just keep an eye on that, and my suspension is getting ready for some repairs.
Thanks for the replies. I went and looked at the car today. Looks great, no antifreeze smells and under car appears to be dry. Bought it for $9650. Should be a great car, can't wait to put some miles on this old girl!!
Many congratulations!! (And thank you for your Cadillac loyalty!) Very excited to read about your new purchase, and I hope you'll post pics whenever you get the chance.
Good for you, you got a whole lot of car for $10,000! Enjoy!
