: Newbie, Ready to buy- need some advice!

Im ready! By the end of July I plan to have my first CTS-V! Actually I owned an 04 GTO for a few years and really enjoyed it.... Except for the fact it was an automatic At the time, the cts-v was new and a bit out of my price range.
Im actually searching for an 04-07 CTS V and am ready to buy.
Are there some quick visual to look for when viewing/test driving?
Are there big differences between 04 - 07 models? For example, is it worth 6-6k to go from an 04 to an 06?
Also, I live in Minnesota and there sure is not a lot to choose from out here. So if I have to travel, I want to make sure I are a good decision.

Thanks for any feedback!

Rough shut down means bad motor mounts.

Whining diff during slight accel from 45 MPH is "normal" unless it's really loud.

The difference between years is more or less inconsequential.

Just look for the normal used-car stuff like dripping oil/fluids, bald rear tires, door dings, rips in seats, and missing fenders.

Good luck!

I only found 2 within 100 miles when I was looking; 1 was Stealth that I didn't like and needed tires and brakes...seemed like the guy could afford maintenance ..skip and the other was a silver with CF bits under the hood and wheels, bit was at a dealer asking too much that wouldn't budge because it was getting interest and sold soon thereafter....I went further and out of state for the one that I bought....24k miles and CPO.

I've also seen some great buys in dealerships in FL, CA, and TX. That would require a flight and shipping for me. So I'd have to add a grand to my budget. I've never bought a car w/o a test drive... But to get the right price and the right car, I'm wondering if it's worth the risk to buy remotely.

I waited over 8 months to purchase mine. Took a while to find the right color, miles, condition, etc...so...even though I have zero patience, it was totally worth the wait rather than jumping the gun. Good luck to you though...

I rushed and got impatient at a time when the market was a little barren. I was willing to travel too. I spent 19k on a car with 89k that was in need of motor mounts, tires, fluids, shock spacers, a shock, a clutch, a spare key, peeling radio buttons, and several other small items that I can't recall at the moment. I stopped counting after $5k. Granted not all of what I did was necessary, but hey, a guy's gotta have a little fun too right?

It wasn't all bad though. It did have a couple of nice mods, a new water pump, a ported and polished TB, flanges for exhaust cutouts, STS-V wheels, corvette FRC's, and a K&N intake.

Bottom line is, I've put way more money into this thing than I'll ever see again. Wait for the right car that doesn't need much if anything and you'll get your "deal".

I agree with this. One of my biggest regrets was shipping mine 900 miles instead of flying it home.

I did see this, and this is just what I'm looking for! Unfortunately, due to commitments at work, it'll be two weeks + before I could get away for 2-3 days. But... Dang, you have an awesome car! I hope it sells, but if not, maybe I'll plan a trip!

Thanks for this list of dealerships, but I have found some options at a few local Chevy dealers... All seem to be higher miles and over priced unfortunately. I'll be patient and keep looking. Can't wait to be a V owner!

I have found 3 cars, private party, but all 99 and up in mileage. Not sure I want high miles when I can spend a few thousand more for the right mileage.

I did find an 05, it's at a Chevy dealer. It has 75k miles on it, but it's red. I really prefer black, but not opposed to red. I figure I'll look and see if red turns my wheels. Dealer asking price is 19,000 obo.

Finally, I saw an 04 black on black with 7,000 miles, yes, 7k miles. The person is asking 26,000. Even though it's low mileage, that seems high for an 04. He been trying to sell it for over a year... I haven't explored this one yet.

Hey Scott, don't mean to rub this in your face but this one slipped by you dude, I just bought this in Minneapolis on 7-11-2012, your posts seem to start on 7-13? she needs a clutch and tires but looking at the build sheet you can understand. Can't upload the receipt on HR springs, new rear diff in Jan.2012, along with new motor mounts and trans. bushing, alignment and rear diff bushings. Price was really cheap also, don't want to say, selling in a couple of years to upgrade. My wife found it on CL at work just surfing around...keep a look out man, there out there. The video is when I rolled in the driveway from bringing it home from MPLS, my 15 yr. old is a little intimidated by it..

Transfer fee would be a bit high, but here is an 04 with 76k miles for $19k through carmax.

I actually called on this one, as I thought about a flight and transfer fee. As it turned out, it was more economical to buy locally... Lucky for me though because, they are slim pickin's in Minnesota!
