D3 | Ventilated Motorsport Hood

Elegance & the Motorsport Spirit are the key factors in the design philosophy of D3.

The D3 Ventilated Motorsport Hood replaces the OEM CTS-V hood with a lighter (nearly 8 lbs) carbon fiber hood. The Ventilated Hood is designed to extract heat allowing for cooler underhood temperatures. Additionally the hood is also designed to clear the largest blowers available including the 4.2L ULTRACHARGER kit. We have tested this hood extensively on the racetrack in the most adverse conditions to ensure adequate cooling efficiency.

Do you have any more pics of the thunder gray car (second from the bottom)? That car is more like what most of us drive, so would give a better idea of how the hood looks without all the other stuff like custom paint and race options. Thanks in advance.

Heres a video of a relatively normal car with the hood. Looks like it hadnt been painted yet though

Nice, thanks! Ya that gives a better idea of how it can look on a normal sedan. It looks like either primered or flat black on purpose.. The reason I say that, not just to be captain obvious,, is because I asked them when I saw them at MFest if they would make a fiberglass version for cheaper and he told me that they will only make it in CF for weight reasons mostly (hence they either primered or painted a CF hood flat black).. I think it was the owner/co-owner I was talking to,, Tim I think was his name? Anyway, I really want this hood, but it is extremely hard for me to justify 3300!!

Yea i hear ya on the price, especially if you want to add painting to that. Then youre out the door around $4k for a hood!

Does D3 offer group buys. It sounds like there is some interest in this hood but the price that is scaring everyone off. if $3K is too much, what would people be comfortable spending for carbon fiber hood? I know I would be much more inclined at $2K

$3300? It's a complex shape and all that but... not for me D=*

Does anyone make an OE CF hood?

P.S. : shouldn't you be running some hood pins?

I can't believe it's still 2K, I suppose it looks like you're getting a 3d mapped OE duplicate hood with CF frame, but $2k for the appearance and 9lb savings? >_>

Can't teach a dead dog tricks! The profile looks like you put a brick on the top of the front of the car. It surely doesn't help the car aerodynamically. The only thing is saving 8 pounds - not worth it. The car is already a road tank ( which I accept and enjoy very much) - 8 pounds isn't going to help that much. Even if it does cool the motor, which I have to question, it sure looks like a bad dream! As for the price - greed will kill you.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay in response. We are looking into possibly offering this hood in a finish other than C/F. When we set out to design this hood we didnt want any compromise in quality, fit, or finish. Therefore we wanted to manufacturer it with the highest quality of materials. The C/F materials allow us to decrease material requirements typically needed to increase strength.

Please let us know if there are any questions. If you need additional information regarding the release of an alternative finished hood, please contact us directly.

Thank you,

I've been emailing with Greg off and on about this hood for a while. Would if be possible keep the louvers but lower the front of the cowl? I have no plans to get a bigger blower, but i would love to let the engine vent.

Hello,

Unfortunately we have already invested into the mold for this hood. It would be extremely cost prohibitive to make such changes to the mold to accommodate this request. If you have someone that can do something from a custom standpoint, you might be able to have them make the modifications you so desire.

Please let us know if there are any questions.

Thank you,

Yea i figured there was a.heft price for the mold. I havent seen one of these hoods in person before, so it would probably be fine. Do you have an idea of when these would be available in a composite material?
