It is difficult in the Wagon, too. I managed. Couldn't use the tether strap, though. Just be sure to put a towel under the seat so it doesn't mar your leather.
As far as the best seat, I would check "one of your leading consumer magazines". In my case, my daughter told me which seat to buy, lol.
I've put a rear facing seat in the back of my 2010 coupe. It wasn't easy. I suggest stopping at a carpet store to pick up a couple of samples to protect your seats.
My daughter and son-in-law went to the local fire dept. to have their infant seat inspected for proper installation. They thought it helped for taking it in and out of their two cars.
I have only put the car seats in the back of mine twice and it's been a pain both times. Both mine are forward facing at this point and I don't know that it's even physically possible to put a rear facing one in safely. The bucket seat would make getting it level a problem I would think. As far as protecting the seats, I use military issue blankets since they clean up nicely (and I had them laying around)
I don't think I would transport an infant in a coupe, if it were me. For one thing, suppose you get in an accident and have to quickly get the infant out of the car. That could be a serious issue if the seats lockup.
This is why I had to get rid of my beloved 6 series. I tried to force it back there, but it was not happening. I thought the caddy coupe back seat was rather roomie though. I think it can be done.
