I know its not recomended but has anyone tried snow tires on a 2wd CTS(Wagon). I had snow tires on the back of many 2wd for over 25 years with fine results but I realize this was before ABS etc. I am in Rochester, NY for a few months of snowy weather, then drive to FL with the CTS for the rest of the winter so I hate to screw around buying and changing 4 tires. I could also just keep aggressive All season tires on the rear and rotate them to the front when they are worn some. I know with AWD that is not reccomended but again with a 2wd I dont see a problem.
Why wouldn't you do it on a RWD? Obviously, all four wheels will give you better "whoa" but just the two driving wheels should serve you well. This comment from a former Buckeye and now a "Southern Gentleman" HA!
Go for it! It worked for millions of Ontarions in the 60's and 70's. Of course as tinman says, 4 will be the ideal in terms of control, but the biggest part of control is in the mind of the driver ----attitude!
I live in BC Canada and deal with snow and mountains. Rear wheel get you started front wheels stop you. All four is a must. I have been driving a CTS rear drive for 5 winters now with little issues. I am upgrading tomorrow to an AWD.
4 nokian hakkapelitta winter tires made it unnecessary for me to buy an awd cts. This is my third car with no awd but 4 good winter tires.
