: 1981 AMC Eagle Sundance on Ebay

What a weird car ... I can only imagine the cowl shake on this thing.
Apparently, the Sundance conversion was offered by AMC dealers only in 1981 -82.
Still, you would certainly have the only AMC Eagle 4WD Sundance on your block!

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n243/tedtcb/sundance.jpg

Looks like the car was chopped up by a conversion company called Griffith, who
also did conversions for Toyota on Celica hatchbacks and Supras.

I went to the big car show at the Charlotte motor speedway this spring... There were so many Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes it was just ridiculous. The part I enjoyed the most was seeing the AMC club's cars.

I thought this would be right up your alley! Winter car! Or does it need to be a full convertible? :stirpot:

Your car in the 80's?

Yes and yes. One of many bought at 90,000 and run up to about 120,000. Found with that vintage of vehicle those were the sweet spot to run them and resell for about what I had in them. Major things usually done by prior owner, smooth auto sailing.(Usually! the key word!)
The back windows were covered with contact paper, on inside of window was red contact reverse cut Pizza Oven lettering with a plywood that had three light sockets so at night I could light it up and would show through, days just white!

Last time I saw an AMC out and about someplace was when I stopped at a petrol station just south of Saint Augustine on my way to the CLC GN meet. It was literally a small glass-front store about the size of someone's living room and two fuel pumps back top back. The canopy built over them was enormous though and on the far corner was someone's project Javelin, sitting there with no windows or hood.

AMC Eagles are fairly common around here, at least the 4wd 4 door hatchback variants. I see 4 or 5 on a regular basis

:yeah:
Comes with a rougher climate as well. There's one or two around here. The guy who delivers the newspapers to the hotel in the morning drives one.

I totally forgot about Javlins. (Don't tell my best friend Larry!:canttalk:)
These are some photos I took in 79 of the 74 Jav he brought home with him from west coast. He bought it while stationed there. (Ranger)
He sold the car in 1980 and about 10 years later he saw it in a Walmart lot and left a note to buy it if it was ever for sale. Two weeks later it was his again. (So COOL to get it back!)

Yup, hasn't done anything with it and just told me a couple of days ago he is losing his storage. His brother is selling his home so he has to do something with it.

I always enjoyed the SST Javelins, and who couldn't like the 2 seat AMX cars, if you like AMC. I had a friend with a Javelin SST, it was ugly but after a while grew on me. 360 with a 3spd auto, ran pretty good. I also had another friend with an AMX that had the Go Package, lots of fun. His Spirit AMX was a lot of fun too!!!!!

He has three homes and one is a farm. He will find storage, it is not for sale. It also is in bad shape due to it's last owner. Not terrible, but bad compared to how Larry always kept it.

Agreed. And I didn't think there was a way to make an AMC Eagle uglier. I will give AMC credit for the Eagle, it caught on a good 20 years before the little car based AWD SUV's, and a good 10-15 years before everybody started buying a Suburu.

I have never been too fond of AMC styling, but like Ford, there are an occasional few vehicles they make that I could stand driving (Yet have interestingly never actually owned an AMC thus far. Hmm, odd). I like the late sixties Rebels and have considered purchasing one back in late 2009/early 2010, but settled for another car I preferred, which also made for a better project. Maybe one day, but I really do not need a third muscle car and probably not a fourth coupe (Though a Cadillac Coupe, I will take)

One of my employees used to own a Javelin and swears by it as one of her favourite cars she ever owned. Sadly, this was before we met, so I have never gotten to drive hers. Interestingly, so far as Rebels go, one of the first cars I ever drove legally (I.E. after receiving my license) was a '69 AMC Rebel. Those, I REALLY liked the styling of, so long as they were in the proper colours.

If I could have an AMC product, this would be it. From the shape of the car, to the crazy paint, I LOVE these. Never seen one in real life. I hope to some day. Up With The Rebel Machine.

Man those trucks with the 4.0 Inline six are unstoppable provided you maintain it. Finding one that is decently cleaned, maintained, and cared for now days is a difficult task, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, etc owners of these rigs tend to be automotive illiterate and just drive them into the ground.

Back in 80's, a guy where I worked owned an AMC Eagle Sundance. Damn thing was ugly as hell to me, so I nicknamed it the Platypus. On the other hand the AMC AMX's were fast and highly sought after Muscle Cars.
