Earlier today I drove into the city for a late breakfast and then hit some spots for new photo’s of Holly. Well I accidentally stumbled upon a Low Rider and Lowered Vehicle Show at Belle Isle, so I thought why not take a look and maybe get a couple of photo.

I don’t particularly like their style, but that really wasn’t relevant, as I was just planning to take a quick look see. Well after spending a little time talking with several of the owners, I found it was more about me accepting their passion, dedication and expression for the hobby and vehicles they love. There were a lot of extremely well modded vehicles with exceptional paint and art work. My personal favorites were those that were just lowered without the hydraulics and small wheels. Anyway, here’s what I thought were nice examples:

I like lowered vehicles done right. The lowrider thing, I just don't get. Good work, but not necessarily good taste, IMHO

I went to a low rider club meet and show many years ago in Southern California, and like you indicated met many very dedicated guys and gals who were involved in this phase of the car culture. At that time, it seemed that most of the people participating were Latinos and much of the art work was derived from Aztec culture. Also like you I found the workmanship displayed on the vehicles to be outstanding and the owners very willing to share their pride and knowledge with those that showed an interest.

Although I had no more interest in being an active participant in the "low rider" phase of the car hobby, than I would in drag racing or the hot rod, or truck rod form of the car culture. I certainly appreciate the time, effort, money and creativity that goes into all the different ways cars are appreciated and used in our contemporary life.
