: Cadillac & LaSalle Club Grand National Meet, 2012. Saint Augustine FL (No 56k Access)

Well, since no one but Craig and I made it (looking at you, Sting) we got the photos we could, but first, the beginning.

So Thursday Afternoon, I took a trip up to Saint Augustine in my Cadillac where I met up with Craig (and Rebecca, his GORGEOUS '77) whom I had not seen since the Roo/Matt themed Florida meet of years gone by. The CLC was having their Grand National meet there this weekend, so it was the perfect time for an impromptu roadtrip. I mean, I got to see an old friend, one of my favourite historic cities, classic cars and make a random roadtrip. What could be better?

I first arrived at the "backup" Hotel, which was the Comfort Suites, right beside the World Gold Resort (It is in Florida, after all) who was hosting the event. I could tell before I even got there that it was the right place, because through the thicket I spotted a glimpse of a familiar roofline.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0240.jpg?t=1339903768

As such, I circled around, found a parking space and made myself at home.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0239-1.jpg?t=1339903764

But my rest was short, as I realized Craig was nowhere to be found, so I headed over to the hosting facility, to see what he was up to. It was a grand place, complete with rolling golf courses, a retirement neighbourhood, condominiums, and lots of scenery typical of Saint Augustine.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0340.jpg?t=1339904187

Not many cars had arrived, and as the evening went on, it continued to rain, but Craig and I found a break and went for dinner in The Historic District at my suggestion, Meehan's Irish Pub. All through town, we were seeing vintage Cadillacs ride up and down the city's streets, but one in particular caught our attention. After dinner, we returned to the hotel and behold. There it was. I'll spare you the blurry night time photos we sent Sting, but here she is the next morning.

Yes, that is a full-on front/dash/tail lamp swap, thereby creating the Fleetwood Estate Wagon. Also seen at our hotel that morning, of particular interest to me, this wonderful '62.

From there, we made use of the washing facility (loading dock) that the host was nice enough to supply, where Craig got Rebecca all prettied up after the rain, so her photo could be taken for the club magazine. A line formed behind us as we waited for them to finish the cover shoot, and I noticed that as trucks pulled in for deliveries, it was beginning to look more and more like my job. Why we even had one of the Hearses (There were two besides me, both here in preperation for the Professional Car Society meet starting in Daytona tomorrow morning), which was good, because Craig was able to barter use of his bucket for use of a rubber mallet, to straighten Rebecca's hubcaps.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0267.jpg?t=1339903871

And with the photo shoot over, we went back to admire the cars, since the rain the day before kept many of them home, covered or just difficult to photo.

Now, I promised two Hearses, didn't I? I was actually able to teach the two owners a little about their cars and other Hearses and they each remained quite surprised at how I was able to identify their cars from ridiculous distances. Sadly, I know a lot about these types of cars. We had a Superior (Like Branwen) Three-Way and a Miller Meteor Endloader combination Hearse/Ambulance.

There were factory Limousines! As I mentioned, we had a '62, but we also had a '76, a '68 and a '44.

Some of the other more interesting cars to show up were these next few, which were some of the oldest ones there.

We had a '35 with suspiciously Mopar-Esque paint, featuring modern CTS seats and a mostly stock Cadillac 472 Engine.

Next up, a Cadillac on 25" wheels. a 1921, complete with factory tool kit, which can be yours, for a low, low $52,500.

One of my personal favourites, this 1912, which came from Jacksonville Fl (Ray, you never told me about this car. Good thing Paradox knows the owner...)

Some other amazing cars. The Eldorado Broughams...when was the last time you saw Seven in one parking lot?

This one was a bit different...but hey, the stainless top looks great.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0254.jpg?t=1339903821

And this one was a custom. The interior was a full redo, though hardly original, whileas the exterior featured a modified front bumper with clear '59 style lamps as signals, custom '59 rear brake and signal lamps, mild custom stock tail lamps and shaved door handles. I'd still rock it.

I have never seen that "Trumpeter" Cadillac radiator cap before, that is really cool!

I am glad to see the Eldorado Broughams appreciated and so many of them represented. For many, many years they were a neglected facet of the post war Cadillac story. Even though they must cost a fortune to restore I am glad someone is taking the time and spending the money to preserve these special cars. Truth be told, the Eldorado Broughams were really Cadillac's attempt at a smaller prestige model.

Craig's twin was also here. A Florida car, he has much less distance to cover to meet us here. Who knows, it may be the one my Mum and Dad almost bought on vacation when I was a kid.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0269.jpg?t=1339903879

We also had our share of the late fifties and early sixties cars show up.

I spotted these from a mile away as remakes. The colour is wrong. Anyone else see it?

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0256.jpg?t=1339903829

The same car also had these. From a distance, Craig and I first thought they were LED brake lights...

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0257.jpg?t=1339903831

We also had our selection of early fifties cars to choose from.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0299.jpg?t=1339904013

As well as the later sixties. Look at all those Stacked headlamps (And that was only half of them)

There came a time for Craig to get Rebecca in for an oil change, so we went off to kill some time at the Dealership too.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0280.jpg?t=1339903931

We played around with all the cool cars there, testing out the various features, then went to go look at their outdoor inventory, where we found a car for Chad.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0279.jpg?t=1339903931

And one for Sting.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0278.jpg?t=1339903921

There I also met Craig's friend Jerry and heard tales of his Cadillac. It has been driven through Australia, to the Pyramids, even met some presidents. He has driven it on every continent (Save Antarctica, but that will change when he figures out how to get it there, now that we have planted the seed) and I think some of you may keep detailed records of your cars, but he probably has you beat...

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0316.jpg?t=1339904087

In spite of all of this, his car looks GREAT. So great in fact, GM wants to borrow it to send it on a tour around the dealerships, where it will come back, fully restored (like it needs it) with a 550 HP engine.

We also had some lovely Broughams show up. I hope Craig got a photo of the white one...

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0306.jpg?t=1339904050

And this '81 showed up. The V8-6-4 still runs and it has all the original paperwork, even the window sticker. Why so? Well, the original owner never sold the car.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0286.jpg?t=1339903963

Some Sevilles showed up, bringing the busselback representation to the party. I'll take the black one.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0304.jpg?t=1339904039

As did some Allantes.

The-Dullahan

Some other things worth noting, that I did not know where to put:

The Kevin Mayhew special, which was for sale outside with some of the parts vendors.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0259.jpg?t=1339903838

The indoor Vendor table. I was tempted to buy a replacement centre cap here. Need a factory Hood Ornament alarm? He has one.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0332.jpg?t=1339904157

And this Cadillac was fresh from The Power Tour. I wonder if he met Murdock...

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0333.jpg?t=1339904160

We also saw something we could not quite determine the purpose of. We read it as "ACCUPUMP" and saw a line running towards the Radiator, but we realized it said ACCUSUMP, when we saw the line wrap around to the oil filter. It was in fact a top end oiler.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0282.jpg?t=1339903941

And now onto the things Sting missed.

Pirates.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0308.jpg?t=1339904053
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0356.jpg?t=1339904249

And the Corvette convention, which was also present at the time.

The-Dullahan
06-17-12, 02:29 AM
So we stopped by. I instantly spotted something odd about this one. The engine was clearly not a Chevy at all, but a Dodge 540 (ported to 544, apparently) AND IT HAD THE ACCUSUMP! As one may presume, this barely fit in a Corvette.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0343.jpg?t=1339904203

There were TWO of these here,

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0341.jpg?t=1339904195

This was nice, but I am still not too big of a Corvette fan.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0353.jpg?t=1339904240

Because I prefer Chevelles. I would have liked to chat with the owner.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0347.jpg?t=1339904217

Craig and I agreed, these remind us of Frogs...

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0338.jpg?t=1339904180

This one looked sharp. It later parked next to me...it was so tiny.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0339.jpg?t=1339904187

And let's review the Orange ones. I think they were ALL Orange. Sting, you missed this. As a heads up, none of these next photos are of the same cars (Except the Creature of the Black Lagoon one. I have two of that)

But like all good things, it had to come to an end and as the banquet started, the Cadillacs began to pack up and head out.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0355.jpg?t=1339904249

And some late entries showed up. It's well...not...well...it's different...

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0354.jpg?t=1339904242

After Craig and I returned from dinner, we returned to collect Branwen and got our hands dirty, as she mysteriously began showing an odd alternator noise. We got the belt to the proper tension and Craig got to see how Olds engines work. I think Branwen just didn't want to leave her extended family.

Craig and I headed back to the hotel to bid our final farewells and I made the time to get Branwen and her Aunt Rebecca in a photo together.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0357.jpg?t=1339904257

And get a photo of Craig with his car, their journey only half way over.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/IMAG0358.jpg?t=1339904256

And made my way homeward, with work tomorrow.

The meet was fantastic and I am really glad I was given the opportunity to go see it. I am told it was a very small Grand National meet, so I hope to attend a bigger one in the future. Next year's meet is in Boston, so I'm already planning on how to pull that trip off, but whether or not I make it, I would advise it to anyone who can. You'll never forget the memories you make during the club meet and you'll make all kinds of new friends. Another thing to remember is that if Craig can make it all the way to Florida from California for two meets now, the rest of you can certainly try harder (nudge, nudge, If it's you I am talking about, you know who you are)

But wait, there's more. Just wait until Craig gets back home...

Good LORD! What a show!!! I think that's the best car show, in terms of overall quality and a wide selection of Cadillacs that I've ever seen!!

That row of Eldorado Broughams....

After seeing these pictures, my interest in the 1962 Cadillacs is growing.

Dullahan, great photos and running coverage. Thank you. I love the Branwen and Rebeca pic. Best in show IMHO, but then I may be partial to family.
Best executed customs, the Fleetwood wagon, and the red 35 resto-mod.(Me want!)
The other two that made me want them bad is the 44 limo, and the 62 limo. I would look right at home in either of those!
I love and appreciate looking at the older cars (I'm with Orconn on the trumpeter, thanks for the close up). I just can't picture myself enjoying driving them. If I can't enjoy the drive why have it? I'm glad people don't feel like me though because they are surely beautiful. I hope you got the name and number of the white 74 hearse. If I am (or my family are, I guess) ever "in need", that is absolutely my pick for last ride!
(No offence Branwen, but a white 74, how could you blame me!) :cloud9: (literally!)

My only question, a Cadillac on 25's with no subwoofer?...What's the point?
Where the bass at?!:sneaky:
I hate to admit...but I sort of like that last 75-6 coupe. (For what is is at least.)

Both you and Chris forgot to mention I was there (Bob). It was my region who hosted this grand party and am happy you both had a great time.

Good LORD! What a show!!! I think that's the best car show, in terms of overall quality and a wide selection of Cadillacs that I've ever seen!!

That row of Eldorado Broughams....

After seeing these pictures, my interest in the 1962 Cadillacs is growing.

And this was small as Grand Nationals go. You should see the really big ones. Well over 200 cars.

My phone has a fairly decent camera on it, apparently. It also seems to possess an unlimited data storage for them, because I don't really use this phone for anything else anyhow.
