View Full Version : 50,000 kilometer service advice???

Sorry if this post is a repeat, but I was just in for my 50,000 kilometer service (30,000 miles) and was told I had to perform a diff oil change due to oxidation. That cost me about $150. Then the dealer said it was also time to flush the brake fluid, power steering and an induction flush due to gas contaminants for an extra $$$$. This just doesn't sit well with me given the low mileage. My car is a daily driver, not a racer and is treated with care. Looking for advice.....

It's just "recommend" but not necessary. Has your diff ever whined/moaned or chattered before? There is a TSB that gives you a "free" oil change.

Never had a sound from the diff. They make it sound like you have to have all that other stuff done, but really?

Check the back of the owners manual, it will tell you the scheduled maintenance. I'll bet at 30K miles it's just for "severe" use like tracking, stop and go, etc.

I just checked the diff oil, it's only $25 each, so $50 total in oil and $100 in labor? The ****? Also if you wanted to do the diff yourself just cause, the oil lists for $25 but the parts dept should be able to do it for under $20. Online dealers have them for $15 and change.

"Normal" differential service is 50K miles, or 80K Kilometers. It's quicker for brake fluid and high performance like was said.

i loled when I read under the trans service details "or for taxi, police or delivery service" (the pizza guy)? nice!

I think that you'll also find *all* these scheduled fluid changes went to "lifetime fill" in 2011

I loled when they reference high speed or competitive driving and using competitive mode for its given use. But damned if the dealer finds out about it!

Thanx a bunch.

I need to correct myself. My manual calls for all the listed service fluid changes, it's just in a chart style instead of worded out.
