: Noob saying hello

Well, I finally stepped up my game and bought a Caddy! :thumbsup: I have built several Ford Lightnings - the last one being a 93 with a 5 speed conversion, supercharged making 550rwhp. My current project is a ~700hp 94 Cobra - 351 / T56 / 76mm turbo. It was going to be finished soon, but the "extra" cash just went to my new purchase :D Which brings me to the V. I was able to find an 04 CTS-V that only had 18,500 miles on it. The previous owner didn't do the mods, so I am going to have to do some digging to find them all. The obvious is the Magnacharger, hood, spoiler, wheels, shifter, Magnaflow catback.

I'm really digging the car. Before I pulled the Cobra apart, it made 476rwhp with the 302. Its amazing how the V is just as fast as the Cobra was, but still rides like a Caddy. Its so smooth and has all the creature comforts of a luxury car, but throw it into a corner and it handles better than a lot of sports cars! I told my wife out of everything I have ever bought myself, this is probably my favorite!

I'm certainly no noob to wrenching, but I'm new to GM wrenching :D I'm sure I'll have some noob questions, so please bear with me!

I don't have too many plans for mods just yet. The first thing I want / NEED to do is fix the sloppy shifter! My other builds had the shifter directly connected to the tranny, so I don't have much experience with linkage. All I know is that the bushings they used are garbage!


BTW, I have had the car for 2 weeks now and I am only like 20 miles short of 20k on the odo :D

Probably gonna need a new rear end sooner or later, 04 / 05 known for not lasting long (especially if your gonna throw on a maggie)

GForce axles help with the wheel hop a lot.

Everyone talks highly of Pissnuoff's modified-stock short shifter.

Stock motor mounts don't last long either.

Keep your clutch fluid clean.

welcome, i too came from the ford truck club, i had a 02 hd f150 makin 450 wheel hp.
looks like you got aa nice car there.
i will vouch for the pinsoft shifter, one of the first mods i did.
+1 on axle reccomidation, will help cure a bit of the nasy wheel hop with these cars and save you diff from exploding.
have you considered the corsa cat back for these cars? sounds amazing with long tubes and no drone.
also stainlessworks makes a nice kit for us to.

Just be prepared for part pricing. You will miss the old days of Mustang part costs. Not as bad as a import like BMW or Mercedes but they still bend you over the barrel for a V. Supercharger $6500, 4k for rear ends, 1k for headers, 1k for cat back. The list goes on...

Welcome to the club. You will be surprised how many people go ape shit when they see a V. I have only owned one for a couple months and every stranger that comes to my house that is the first words out of their mouth, "Is that a V in the driveway?" "we were looking at those but could not afford it" so on and so forth.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely seeing the big price difference! Wow this stuff is expensive! Like I said, I don't really have too much planned for the car. I did a lot of fabrication on my Lightnings and Cobra, so I may just have to make my own parts! :D

I got an email about the shifter bushings, so that will be ordered tonight! I don't know what brand my shifter is, but it has a UUC knob on it, so I would imagine the shifter is UUC as well.

As for the rear, is it only in danger from wheel hop? I won't be doing any "competitive" driving with this. Its just a really nice daily driver. I generally wait until I'm in second before I floor it (and NOT dumping the clutch in 2nd). It sucks that the 8.8 conversion is so expensive too. I have plenty of experience with those! :D

If you go that route, you have a great future here selling your self made goods. There are people here that have made that a lucrative hobby now.

Great looking rides! You'll love the V as a daily driver, only thing that gets me about these cars is the price of parts, not like the mustangs where manufactures can keep costs low becuase there are millions of them on the roads. But, it a cadillac that goes like hell so I'm not complaining!

wheels: Killernoodle does a good trailing arm mod to give some clearance for aftermarket wheels. Presence Distribution is selling the F14 Forgestar.

I've had my V for a year now and there is noticeable clunk in the drivetrain. Many have done the Gforce or Hendrix axle upgrade to eliminate the wheel hop (I haven't upgraded this yet). Motor mounts are a problem - there are many options, Revshift looks promising (I ordered a set, soft blues). The body leans in tight corners - Hotchkis sways help (I have this).

I'm still on the fence with the CS 8.8 swap. It's ~$5k but paves the way for almost any performance mod. Still don't know if it clears a 3" exhaust pipe.

Welcome, and feel free to give me a yell if you need help. If the need is urgent, I have no problem giving out my cell phone number. Two years ago, I only knew how to change oil and rotate tires. Then I bought my 2006 CTS-V with 7k miles and did the following:

- Lingenfelter CAI, P/P LS2 TB, 1-7/8" OBX headers, Kooks cats, Magnaflow exhaust
- GM LS7 clutch, Fidanza flywheel, Katech v2 shifter, RevShift T56 insert, CS bushings
- ATI SuperDamper, Comp TRuTorq L3 cam (223/236 .612/.610 115LSA) + valvetrain upgrades
- GC 650/650, Hotchkis sways, Killernoodle TAs, C5/C6 ELs, Feffman Fix, Forgestar F14 wheels
- Hawk HP+, EC hood, Racetronix hotwire kit, Walbro 255LPH fuel pump, LS9 56 lb injectors

You'll almost certainly want to get yourself some Creative Steel shifter bushings ($25), the RevShift transmission mount insert ($50), a PA15-VETTE if you have an iPod or iPhone ($125), the Hotchkis sway bar kit ($450), and the Ground Control coilover kit ($500). Another easy mod involves using a couple of cans of PlastiDip to black out the center of your upper and lower grilles. This can make a huge difference in the look of the car--take a look at this picture (this is Jon04's CTS-V):

The first time I installed a PA15-VETTE in a CTS-V, it took me all afternoon. Your results may vary.

Welcome the car looks awesome, I just picked up a silver 05 myself. By the way I have a Ipod hook up too but not sure how to get it to play yet.
