: LOUD Beep coming from back seat or trunk

Over the past week or so my car will emit a very loud short beep or pop. It sounds like it's coming from the back seat area. Today, however, the beep lasted about a minute and drove me nuts while I was on the freeway.

It happened again when I parked, so i turned off the car and it stopped. As soon as I turned accessory back on, it started again, so I started poking my head around. I opened the trunk and it sounds like it may be coming from in there. When I shut the trunk lid, it stopped again. That may have been coincidental though.

Any idea?

This is an interesting problem. Im curious if it has anything to do with the navigation. My car will make a "zzzzzt" sound for about one second, only in one spot of the highway, leading to an Indian casino. (on the reservation) it does this if the nav is set or not.
Just curious if your car does this is different places, or the same general area.

It is completely random where it occurs.

Do you have rear parking assist ? Maybe it's screwing up.

+1

That's what I was thinking too. Next time it happens look in your rear view and see if along the ceiling of the car by the rear windshield if any lights are on. There are 3 of them, two yellow and one red.

i'll check, but this doesn't seem like it. The pitch of the continuous beep is higher and I am driving forward. Additionally, my rear parking assist works just fine, always.

Hmm. That's weird.

Hmm. That's weird. Maybe rear speaker related? Interference or faulty wire?

That's what I was thinking too, but when I turn the radio off, it continues.

So it finally did it when I was entering my car this morning. I took a look around and it sounded like it was coming from the subwoofer... I doubt the sub can make such a high frequency sound though... Any thoughts?

Have you seen the neighbor's cat lately?

That crossed my mind...

What is the easiest way to unplug the subwoofer / rear speakers?

Try finding the fuse.

That fuse turns off everything though... front speakers, chimes, sub, etc.

And it looks like the terminals are on the top of the sub, not the back like most. I guess the only way to get in there and unplug it is to take off the rear deck. Is there a way to do this without taking the seat apart?

EDIT

So I took the whole back seat of the car out... It looks like the amp for the sub actually sits on top of the sub. I unplugged it. My sub is out, but I am surprised by the amount of bass that all of the little 8"s in the doors will produce. I suppose I will try to buy a replacement amp/sub.

My sub went out and the manual shows I have to take out the air bags to remove the rear deck so I can get to the sub. How did you get the rear deck off to unhook the speaker?

It wasn't too hard.

I removed the bottom seat cushion.. Just pull up and it will pop out.

The bolts that hold the back of the seat in place protrude in to the trunk. Get back there with a deep socket and take them out.

The side sails will come off if you pop off the plastic piece in the center that say "airbag" and then remove the small bolt behind them.

Now you can pop out the small plastic clips holding the rear deck in.

Did your sub do the same thing mine did, or did it just blow?

Buzzing = torn or blown voice coil. Either way, it is destroyed.

A. Speakers can be rebuilt.

B. All cars run on used parts.

I never ended up replacing the sub/amp. It is just unplugged for now.

I think it's the amp...a blown/torn speaker always sounds bad...those subs were made in an opposite way so magnets didn't hang down and take up your trunk space(as if the trunk wasn't big enough anyway) :)

I'm having the same issue, except it seems to have come on more often and for longer periods of time now, up to about 5 minutes.
Since you unplugged your sub/amp have you heard the buzzing/beeping noise again?

Does anyone have any more info on this? I was checking around for a new sub/amp and I realized that the amp for all the speakers is the same as the one for the sub. That's a $1000 part. I'm pretty sure it's the amp, as a malfunctioning sub wouldn't likely make an incredibly high pitched sound.
