Just bought an HID kit for the H11 fog light bulbs, anyone have any tips or tricks to installing these before I dive right in? Does the bumper need to come off?

Easy install. No need to pull the bumper. Drop the panel behind the fog and a lil access from the wheel well. Good luck!

Take the wheel off, take the wheel liner off. Nice "shelf" above the fog housing where you can two side tape the ballast above.
I took some pictures, let me see if I can find them tonight.

what a coincidence, i have a spare set of h11's 8k (ddm) from my navigator fogs. and i thought they'd just collect dust on the shelf. =] subscribed.

Haha I just picked up a kit with 6k bulbs I'll probably do the install tomorrow after work.

6K and 8K are pretty blue.

What's the stock headlight bulbs output?

i would say its in the 4k spectrum.(stock bulbs) i think d3 sells a full kit. just find out what bulb size and order them from ddm too. i'm sure it's a lot cheaper than d3's kit.

I figured it was high 4s, 6k was the smallest one he had, I can always change out the bulb if I decide it's too blue, I had 8500k on the Acura TL I owned before my V and those were pretty blue, I think 6k will look alright.

i like the blue vs the pale white spectrum of american stock bulb vehicles. the blue spectrum looks much more high end.(euro) the only draw back is the piping lights on the sides. i dont think there is a conversion for those yet.

8K is ricer blue, and I wouldn't be surprised if it puts out less lumens than the halogens in the fogs now.

Got the kit from D3 on ebay they are the same color as headlights. Look right together

What's the output on the d3 kit?

The 8k certainly will yield less usable light than the 6k and then than the 5k...and the 8k from ddm is not BLUE, but it's a little ricey, although if you do the 55w ballasts it tends to whiten it a bit for whatever reason.

Blue is rice, white is nice.

I'm hoping the 6k isn't too blue.

55w 5k was a perfect match for me.

My ballast is a 35w

4300K or 5000K is best, 6000K will have a slight blue hue and look even blue-er next to the 4300K stockers.

Hopefully it doesn't look too blue to the point where it will look stupid

I guess you'll find out. HID bulbs are cheap enough if you decide to go with a 5000K.

just did my top and bottom 2 weeks ago....but i bought the 10k... not bright enough...going to buy the 5k this week...thanks to the previous owner there are no splash sheilds under the car ...so it was really just 4 bolts and about 5 or 6 of the plastic push pins....ballast are neatly tucked away behind the bumper support.....good luck with yours

Is there room if you go from up under the bumper as opposed to taking the tire and fender liner out?

Yes. No need to pull the wheel

Blew the tire off my daily driver last night changed my plans.
I went through the wheel well so I didn't have to get under the car to get to the fogs. Either way you are popping a bunch of those annyoing clips.

Plus I got a chance to paint the hubs of the rotors while the wheel was off.

I went with 5,000k and 55W. 55w washout the color a little. I would have went 4,500k for 35w if I was trying to match the OEM headlights.

My tire blew out on my daily too last night haha, I hate gm push clips but I don't have an impact gun at my house so I'll probably end up going up through the bumper and taking the splash shield off the bottom.

Anybody have the link to a D3 or matching HID setup for the fog lights? I suck at the internet.

What's the output on the d3 kit?

They have a few different versions available. I purchased the 4300 kit from their distribution center and they match EXACTLY IMHO the OEM headlights just the way it should have come from the factory. Jacked the front of the car up, popped the access panels in front of the wheel wells; double back taped the ballasts to the inner bumper liner. 2 hours max for a ding-dong like me.

Regards

Steve

PS I have ZERO affiliation with D3 whatsoever...They jusy happen to be local :)

Put them in yesterday, they look SO much better than the stock halogen fogs, gm should've put HID fogs in the v in my opinion

Has anyone wired these to come on with the main headlights? Any reason not to?

Stillborn
05-13-12, 03:01 PM
no need, you can turn on the fogs at will with a forward roll on the light stem. if anything, people want to use the side light bars at driving lights.and i agree, they look great, the only issue is they look good only when you press your unlock fob control and they're 5x brighter than when the car is running. i would love to see someone forge this route and make a plug and play relay.

joe, you going to H.D. today? i'll be up @ 5ish. i wanna see those fogs... =]

I'm not 100 percent sure if I'm going down there today, got some family over but it sure is nice out, I'm gonna try to get there at some point.

If I went with the DDM D1S replacement bulbs for the headlights and their 35w H11 kit for the fogs am I going to be good?

Whats the output you ordered? 4300k, 6000k?

Here's a picture of the difference between the stock (passenger side) to the 6k hid (driver side)

If you got the Hoens, they are not HID but match stock color.
