Been having the traction control switch off after a couple of miles travel. When it happens, the traction control light comes on on the dash, and you can tell the car is taking off in second gear. When this happens, the button in the glove box does nothing.
Took the car to the dealer, and they are telling me that it is a CPU of some sort that controls it, and it needs to be replaced. They said if could also effect the ABS altho it has not yet at this point. My wife drives this car and I would hate for het to have an accident because of an abs problem.
They want slightly over $700 for this part plus $200 labor. Trying to decide what to do. Does anyone kbow what the part number for this controller would be?

Thanks
Jay

I have the same EXACT problem on a 1995 Deville Concours. The intermittent aspect of this leads me to believe that I have a poor connection somewhere but who knows where to even look? If you get a fix for this please let me know. Thanks!!

Hi Big Jay! I had a similar situation with my STS & it turned out to be an internal trans sensor. But I also got a "Service Transmission" message on my DIC. Do you get this?

Also, did the dealer mention any trouble codes that were present when you took it in? If not you can get these yourself by simply turning the ignition on (engine not running) & pressing/holding the "OFF" & Passenger Warmer buttion at the same time until everything lights up, then release. Then write down any codes which show up on the DIC. When "PCM?" comes up, just turn the ignition off.

Do this & post your codes on the forum & we might be able to confirm if the dealer is right/honest or blowing smoke.

If you can't tell, I have little faith in dealer service depts. In my experience they do the "replace things until problem goes away" technique which will drain your wallet dry.

There is much knowledge & experience on this forum. And believe me, this forum has saved me 1,000's of $$$'s vs. taking it to a dealer.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,
96 STS

Hi, guys . I've got '95 STS and it has the same problem. Only my ABS and TCS are out. I get the P-137 ( "TCS/ABS data loss" )code on both the code reader and the on-board display. Hate to drive without TCS( traction control ) or ABS. If any one knows how to fix this problem let me know !!! PLZ ...

I'm having the same problem on a '96 Deville! It has the EXACT same symptoms. I'm new to this forum and I'm just starting to try to fix this problem. Am I to understand that you can get the trouble codes from the computer to somehow display on the dash ?
