I posted this on that other forum so thats why its formatted this way.

I know this isnt the Camaro section but we do a fair amount of road racing here so this might be some info i dont think people are aware of.

ZL1 track times so far:
2:52:4 at VIR
Its as fast as a KTM XBow and faster then the following. GT-R, Z06 with the Z07 package, LP670-4 Murci, 430 Scud, GT3 RS, etc

This seems to be a very very well engineered vehicle. If the Gt500 can move like this then we are in for a wild summer.

Watched 'em both. Wow. Can't imagine squealing the tires while cornering at 101 MPH. Wow.

Bring on the GT500 vid, now. I'm ready.

That VIR time is about 2 seconds off the ZR1 time. No way a GT500 gets within 2 seconds of a ZR1. I think we're gonna see the Ford to be a better strip car and the ZL1 spank it on the road course.

Wow...120s in the Esses...nutz. wish the times were Full course, not Grand. But he goes off Full at 1:32 and comes back on at 2:24, roughly :52 and maybe it's a couple seconds on the straight he missed... OMG...he's running roughly a 2:03-05!
:worship:

And the text under the video says the ZR1 did 2:45

The highlighted statement above is not exactly true. The Car & Driver journalists are not necessarily approaching the full capabilities of those cars (i.e., the journalists that are driving the cars are relatively slow) and, hence, the times listed in the Lightning Laps do not necessarily reflect what the cars are capable of.

Although, the ZL1 is indeed an impressive effort, it is not likely to handily beat up on those cars you've listed above and it certainly wouldn't be accurate to compare Aaron Link's time in the ZL1 to those set by C&D. For example, Jim Mero set a 2:45.6 in the ZR1, whereas Car & Driver's ZR1 lap time was off that pace by over 5 seconds at 2:50.7. Hell, Jim Mero's time in the ZR1 even beat Car & Driver's time in the Mosler MT900S (2:45.9), a 550hp, 2580 lb car. It's clear that the times are not comparable.

These videos are actually pretty old, but if you think the video of the ZL1 on VIR is impressive, take a look at the video of Jim Mero in the ZR1 ripping through the esses. Watch the speed he carries into them and (if you've ever been on that track and are able to comprehend the enormity of the speeds he's carrying) you'll shitzu your pants.

As I mentioned above, the ZL1 time set by Link can't be accurately compared to any of C&D's lap times. C&D's times simply do not reflect the times that the cars are capable of. The ZL1 is actually off the ZR1's time by 6.8 seconds (not 2), as set by Jim Mero (2:45.6), whose lap time gives a more accurate indication of what the vehicle is actually capable of.

It would be hard to imagine that a 4100lb Camaro would be within 2 seconds of a ZR1 in the real world.

Is Mero on street tires?

Both the ZL1's and ZR1's VIR times were set on production spec vehicles. In the case of the 2012 ZR1, they were running Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, which is the same exact tires used by C&D to set their 5.1 second slower 2:50.7 lap time (they were 1.1 seconds slower than the Cups on the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 at 2:51.8). It wasn't like Mero was using softer tires than C&D - same car, same tires; the journalists are just much slower.
