I suspect many of us who drive this fine vehicle also have an alternate set of wheels for when we have the need for speed :) and from what I've seen I suspect the Corvette to be high on the list as it is for me :)

I respectfully disagree.
Why anything else but a Corvette? The list goes on and on for me at least. The top of that list being more overall driving pleasure, quality interior parts, and refinement.
While I can appreciate that the Corvette is American made, has a great engine lineup, and most importantly has an amazing performance "bang for the buck" value, the Porsche is just so much more.
I understand that the Porsche is in many cases significantly more expensive and at least to this guy, it's completely worth it. Murphy or berk4422, have you driven a modern 911? If not, then you are surely missing out. I've driven modern Corvette's and while I like the engine and the brute power, the driving experience just doesn't compare.

The guys at Motortrend give a more detailed comparison: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1204_2012_chevrolet_corvette_grand_sport_coupe_vs_ 2012_porsche_911_carrera_s_comparison/viewall.html

Berk4422 - While we obviously disagree on sports car, we seem to agree on license plates. :D You're the first one i've seen with it other than myself in 2 states (VT and Colorado). I've had it for about 20 years now.

Elusive, Very pretty Carrera s and yes, I love your plate!
Regarding the license plate, for me there are many meanings to the plate aside from the obvious which most law (traffic) enforcement seem to love. Just a couple: I searched for a Corvette with these exact options for over a year. When I finally found the car, (base model with z06 wheels) I called Carmax (intervette purchase). I was told it was sold. Something didn't sound right since they don't keep cars posted on-line that are sold. I called another location and they said it wasn't sold. After a week of research, Carmax called me back and explained their VP had taken the car on vacation and was returning it on Monday. Another reason for the plate is the wheels fell off my life in 2004. Lost everything, since then gained back 2 times what I lost. The America dream is Elusive. here is the Slade plate:

Oh some day I may consider a 911...a fantastic sports car...it's a matter of having one and not both and presently I'm opting for the "rawness" of the Z06 and since supercharging my Lade I'm thinking I'm gonna do the vette too..I had 2 e39 M5's and a 540 and that German thing just didn't do it for me...for now I'll stick to the good ole Corvette.. I have had or have 11 Corvette's, 2 Porsche's (86' 911 turbo, 96' 911 twin turbo), 1 Ferrari 2005 575m, 1 Lamborghini Countach 1988, and many Benz's, BMW's but they are not real sports cars. I must say that the 2012 ZR1 is the best car I have ever drove if you take into account speed, handling, braking and comfort, now I may change my vote when the twin turbo 458 arrives in a few weeks. ;)

1998 Countach?
I agree that the ZR1 is an amazing piece of machinery. It's much more of what i expect the Corvette to be.
Is the 458 twin turbo an aftermarket build or is that direct for Ferrari?

Good catch that was 1988, it would be a real special edition if it was a 98'. Underground Racing because Ferrari wouldn't
