I have a 2001 deville, I want to upgrade the head unit to something with navigation.

First off, I LOATHE door chimes, secondly my onstar already is crap, I couldn't even hear it well enough to set it up with the volume at max.

I'd really prefer to run all my own cable to my own amp, will the car freak out and do anything undesirable if the stock radio is just removed?

I'd hate to spend 100 bucks on a pricey harness adapter if it's really not going to do anything for me.

Yes you will need a adapter that will as you say cost at least $100. Without the adapter whatever deck you put in there Will never turn on and the whole car audio system, onstar, and your chimes will cease to exist.

You can get any one of these two but I prefer the PAC one:

It's going to be FULLY redone, none of the original amp/head unit/wire used AT ALL. I don't want the onstar, I don't want the chimes, I would however be slightly upset if my car didn't run afterwards though.

It doesn't matter if you tear everything car audio related in your car. It's your computer or ecu that needs it. If you don't have it the what I want to call it "fail safe" activates and doesn't power your stereo or amps.

When turned the acc relay should still kick on, that's the only car related trigger I need, the amp and head unit will both be removed from the car.
