: 368 Distributor on the bigger engines

I scored a 368 electronic distributor today at Pick n pull. To use it on a carbed 425, I would need a stand alone controller for it. What should I get? I'm wondering if the smog people are gonna get upset if I have it though. Maybe if I put a fake vacuum advance next to it?

Also I was wondering, and this might seem like a dumb question, but if I get the Cloyes 3911 or whatever timing chain and advance the full 4˚, won't that change my ignition timing too? If so how much? I guess I don't really get how setting all that up works.

The 368 distrubtor will work on 425,472 and 500 motors... But the F/I distrubtor must be used to control the spark with a computer... this will need some sensors... If your going to do all that you might just make it fuel injected... If you are going to use a carb you best use a distrubtor with centrifical and vacume advances...

My experience is, there is plenty of advantage to electronic (programable) spark
maps, and that includes with a carb. I did it with a crank trigger system. Its
far easier to get right than a fuel injection system. But most people do injection 1st,
and think about the spark later (much, much later). Bruce Roe

Alright, well, at least I have it! It was from an 81, so if the 864 covers and solenoids are still there next time I'm gonna take those too and maybe try to adapt one day like that Swedish dude did.
