Hey everyone, I just purchased a 05 CTS-V last week. Black on black.

I have a rattle that I would like to fix. It sounds like something fell into the defroster vents. Whenever I turn I can hear it rattling from side to side. Needless to say It's driving me nuts!

How do I remove the forward dash piece?

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Like most trim pieces, it's a scary process at first until you do it a couple of times and break in the fasteners. Use this FAQ page to remove the center/front vents:

http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/navconvert/index.html

Use this FAQ page to fix the rattle:

The advice that I found on the CTS-V forums and through reading the FAQ was inadequate to open these vents without damaging them (in my opinion). In order to get them open, I picked up a very, very stiff putty knife and wrapped it in 3-4 layers of packing tape to prevent scratching. The amount of force required to pop the vents free was ridiculous.

Thanks for the info, but this is not the area I have a rattle.

It sounds like something fell into the defroster vents, like a small piece of candy. When I turn it rolls from side to side. I need to remove the plastic trim on the top of the dashboard closest to the windshield. I would like to do this before I have the windshield tinted next week.

I found two of my main rattles were easy to get to. They were down in front of the shifter/ash tray area.
When the coin holder is too full and opens fast it dumps change onto the center console in front of the shifter and it can fall down inside the console onto the trans tunnel out of reach.
Pull the knob and boot, then the foam and look for any coins. I found a small 7mm bolt was the cause of most of my noise as well as a penny.
Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info. I got it. It was a tiny rock in the defroster vent.

Nice! How did you get it out?
Sidenote: makes me think of this.

I had to remove the dash cover. Just 3 clips and took out the light sensor. Took 2 minutes.
