Just got back from a 580 mile trip and got 13.7 miles to a gallon. Think its time for a plug change and check some wires cause i know this cadi can do better than that.

Yes, that is truly bad. Were you driving into a strong headwind the entire time and doing 85? That's what it would take for mine to get anywhere near that. I actually got 15.5 towing a 5000lb uhaul trailer at 70 with no wind. At 70-75 with no trailer and no wind I get 18.5-20. 2007 ESV AWD, 102k on it.

Some thoughts:
- How many miles are on it? (if over 100k, deterioration of certain things can start to affect fuel economy...plugs, wires, O2 sensors, air filter, injector cleanliness, etc.)
- Tire pressure OK? Wheel size not huge?
- Air filter changed in the last 40k?
- Parking brake fully releasing?

Really??? With a 5,000# trailer you got 15.5??

And without it you got 18.5?

I pull an enclosed trailer that is 6,000# and I get 9.5!

I just lowered my cruise speed from 71 to 66 and my mileage went from 8.3 to 9.5!

Without the trailer I get 17.

If you got 15.5 pulling a 5,000# trailer at 70 you must be going down hill all the way. IMO

Yes, 15.5, 70-75MPH, level ground. Total trip was approx. 210 miles.
There seems to be a big difference in what people with the same vehicle are getting, which may be due to mechanical differences or just variations in driving style. For example, in the city I immediately lift off the gas as soon as I see the light changing to yellow far ahead. Many, many people tailgate and then whiz by, late for the red light, going from gas to brake, never coasting, wondering why they get 8MPG when gas is $4/gallon and have to replace their brakes every 2 years. On the highway, I try to keep it in 6th gear and I don't rev above 2500RPM when accelerating or passing (if I can help it). I tend to exceed EPA window sticker ratings on all of my vehicles, city and highway. The original brakes lasted 86,500 miles and I still had 40% pad left (rotors were warped so I changed both pads and rotors). I've chilled out considerably in my driving style the past few years, and it saves me a lot of money.

With 86k miles on my 07 Escalade AWD running 22" Dubs & 285 tires weighing in at 102.5lbs each gets 14-21mpg with a semi aggressive driving style. (the 20" with 305 tires that I have only weigh 75lbs).

My 2011 ESV AWD got 9.9 pulling a 4K lbs Ski Nautique in Florida ( 75 mph )

I average 14 going back and forth to work half in town half parkway.

My phone Onstar app says lifetime average 13 ( 15k miles )

Is 15 mpg normal for the 2009 Escalade Hybrid? I am about to pick up the purchase order for a 2009 Escalade Hybrid (Base). When I looked at it the dash computer said it's getting 14.9 mpg. I checked the mileage and # gallons used from the dash computer and it comes out to about 15 mpg. The advertised 20 mpg matters to me and could be a deal breaker, al things considered. -Thanks

Great question, Cheko,

I just wanted to get some information your way on how the EPA numbers are obtained and their purpose. The fuel economy estimates are based on results of tests required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These tests are used to certify that vehicles meet the federal emissions and fuel economy standards. Manufacturers test pre-production prototypes of the new vehicle models and submit the test results to EPA. EPA re-tests about 10% of vehicle models to confirm the manufacturer's results. The vehicles are driven by a professional driver under controlled laboratory conditions, on an instrument similar to a treadmill. These procedures ensure that each vehicle is tested under identical conditions; therefore, the results can be compared with confidence.
The EPA's fuel economy estimates are designed to allow consumers to comparison shop. Your fuel economy will almost certainly vary from EPA's fuel economy rating. This is based on a number of factors, such as weather, road conditions, driving and maintenance habits, and use of air conditioning. For more information on how fuel economy can vary, or tips to improve fuel economy, please visit "Your MPG Will Still Vary" and "Gas Mileage Tips" on www.fueleconomy.gov.
Hope this is helpful for you,

Thanks for the info Sarah and PeteKT. I guess it's not a big stretch for a vehicle as big as an Escalade to get 15 - 17 mpg, hybrid or not. I think the idea of getting 20 mpg went to my head. I decided not to get the Escalade I was looking at. It is still one of my favorite vehicles, so I will just keep looking until I come across the right deal.

Wow I wish i had the gas mileage you all do. I average 13.9 combined highway and city on my 2008 my 2011 I have not yet driven except for a 2 trips to the dealer 30 miles away.

I must say that I live in Los Angeles where stop and go traffic is the norm 24 hours a day, it bites! LOL

There are many other factors that can effect the mileage, road surface, heat, humidity..... are you driving up hill even if barely a grade it can substantially effect the mileage. I have had 2 different 2007 ESV's in the last 18 months, the first did consistent 17.5 - 18 on the highway if the temp was not too hot or humid. The second one does 18-20. However the second ESV had factory 18" wheels converted to the 22's and I do not believe the computer was adjusted. I think this may account for the difference, both trucks have about 40k on them. If your not getting at least 17 mpg there has got to be a problem.

I used to get 11.1 and I'm down to 10.7mpg now.

Is that highway (as in no traffic highway) or around town? Because they are pigs in the city, no way around that! Driving habits are a huge factor as well. My wife has no concept of driving economicaly, so around town she gets like 8-9mpg and I burn through brakes! Why does she race to a red light is beyond me!

2009 Escalade all stock wheels/tires. 25k miles

Just did a road trip from Atlanta to Kentucky and averaged 17.7. Not too bad considering a lot of I75 through Tennessee is mountain driving.

I usually average 13-15 around Atlanta driving.

Time for:

1. New Throttle Body from Rock AUTO. Old one in trash (probably the most important one)
2. New air filter
3. Plug and wires
4. Clean MAF
