How many people out there have any diesel Cadillac's?

Don't currently have any, but my Dad and I have had several over the years. The first was an '81 Fleetwood that still ran with 137,000, but we swapped in a '74 472. Dropped our mileage from about 32MPG to 15 in a hurry. Also had an '81 CDV that was still running at 120,000 and we swapped in a '67 Olds rocket 350. (Dad did this against my will). Also had an '81 Delta 88 and a '79 delta 88. The '79 was swapped to a gas 350 immediately as the crank was broke and the '81 was still running when we sold it with about 150,000. My final diesel was an '84 Silverado with the 6.2. I dubbed it "super truck". The only repair ever done to the engine was an injector pump rebuild at 140,000 and it was running strong at 248,000 when I sold it.
The 5.7's got an awfully bad rap when they were actually good engines if cared for properly. Wouldn't mind having another just for fuel economy, you can pass gas stations like crazy, but nothing else.

I would think that with Cadillac attempting to make inroads in Europe, we're going to see modern Cadillac diesels over there.

The european marketed cadillac does have some options (From opel). There is the 2.2 I4 and the 3.0 V6 diesel. Not sure if they are going to use a diesel though...

The new BTS - to be built out of Saab's plant - will have the I4 diesel option. As for me, I still have my family's '81 Eldo Diesel - second engine, 106K miles.

I have seen lots of diesels around where I live here in NC. Mostly 83-84 Devilles, but once I saw a 81 Seville Diesel, complete with AM-FM-8 Track-CB Delco Sound System.

Thanks

I still have my Grandparents 81 Eldorado diesel also. All original, second engine, and 48,000 miles.

If anyone's interested, here's an e-mail I got back from Cadillac way back in 1996 about my Eldo...

Thank you for your recent e-mail. There was a total of 240,189
Cadillacs built during the 1981 model year. Of those, 60,643
were Eldorados and of those, 11,765 were diesel. The Manufac-
turer's Suggested Retail Price for the V6 Eldorado was $17,385.
For the V8-6-4, the MSRP was $17,550.
Sincerely,
Cadillac Motor Car Division
