I was wondering if anybody has improvised a way to replace the valve stem seals other than the special tool the manual calls for.

OK - valve stem seals - no way around it - for an OHC engine you must remove the cams and use special valve retainer tools - it's no fun...............

(deleted the tire valve stem post !!!!................sorry)

Heads are torn down (cams, springs, valves removed). I was just wondering what others have done to get the seal out. Its hard to get to down in the hole where the spring and lifter sit.

Long needle nose pliers? Twist while pulling to break the seal. There are also holes in the sides of the stem seal at the base. Craft a 'puller' from strong steel wire and hook it into the holes.

Or get the factory removal/installation tool. Doing all 32 without it might be a chore.

Those seals rarely fail - even on high mileage engines
