I have an 03 Ext with 23inch wheels. When I'm turning and have the steering wheel in the turned position it feels like the steering is loose. It only happens if I'm going through a turn like going around a circle and the road is bumpy and it feels like something in the steering column is loose. But if I'm on a straight bumpy road it doesn't happen. Is there anything that can go bad from heavy rims in the steering?

i have the same problem, i didnt notice it with stock wheels. Seems that the steering has a little bit of trouble turning the bigger wheels. Mine sometimes feels as if it is swirving all over the road, especially on crappy roads.

check out the speed sensitive magnet in the steering column. I have a loose steering problem in my 99 and thats what it is. It controls the speed sensitive steering

could be that your pitman and/or idler arms are going bad. they can definately wear out faster with bigger/heavier wheels and tires.
The wider tires, will make it track more on uneven surfaces....
