I recently purchased a 2000 Deville, just a plain jane devile not a DHS or DTS. I am curious about the power rating of the two motors in these cars. One is rated at 275 HP and the other @ 300. Where is this extra power made in the DTS version? Different pistons? Heads? Exhaust? Is it in the progamming of the PCM? Is it possible to switch the progamings in the PCM between these cars? Why is that 25 extra horse power worth 5000$ more? Is there a good source for this kind of information out there somewhere. Or somewhere you can look up available options for these cars. Was it possible to get teh 300 hp motor in the plain jane deville?

thanks in advance

The "plain Jane" Deville does not nor ever did come with the 300 HP version of theNorthstar. The difference is in the intake cam. The 275HP version has a lower gear ratio final drive so it will get more low end torque and a little better gas milage. You can't switch PCM's to get more HP. Why is that 25 extra horse power worth 5000$ more? Because people will pay it. Having said that, I think the DTS & DHS with the 300 HP engine also have standard features that are optional on our Devilles (if available at all).
