Hey everyone,

I'm new to the CTS-V 2nd gen. I've got a couple of questions, but my searches aren't coming up with much. I want to prevent thread sprawl as much as possible, so i'm putting them all in 1 thread. I'm looking for the answers to these questions:

1. Is there a guide to taking off the grilles for painting?
2. Is there the same for the side vents for painting?
3. What are the numbers of the interior bulbs to swap to LED's?
4. What are the widest rear tires you can fit on a 20" wheel on the sedans?
5. Can you buy just the black plastic surround bezel on the center console (my car is used, and the one that came with it is scratched up. I want to clear coat the new one before putting it on)
6. Is there a guide for removing the rear chrome piece on the back of the car?
7. Is there a guide to swapping out the factory steering wheel for the suede steering wheel? Same for the automatic shift knob.

I know this is a lot of questions, but I want to be prepared before I just go taking parts off of the car to paint/change.

Thanks!

1. Is there a guide to taking off the grilles for painting? *Not that I know of.
2. Is there the same for the side vents for painting? *Not that I know of.
3. What are the numbers of the interior bulbs to swap to LED's? *This would be a good sticky, but haven't seen it posted :)
4. What are the widest rear tires you can fit on a 20" wheel on the sedans? *305-30-20 is a popular size for 10.5" rear wheels
5. Can you buy just the black plastic surround bezel on the center console (my car is used, and the one that came with it is scratched up. I want to clear coat the new one before putting it on). *I would post in the carbon interior pieces thread looking to swap someone who plans on covering their good condition piece in carbon.
6. Is there a guide for removing the rear chrome piece on the back of the car? *Not that I know of.
7. Is there a guide to swapping out the factory steering wheel for the suede steering wheel? Same for the automatic shift knob. *Not that I know of. Contact one of the supporting Cadi dealers on here. They are all very helpful and should provide some direction on this (and maybe even get you a smokin deal on the replacement parts. See ads to the right and/or the supporting vendor forum sub-section).

And welcome!

I think you would do better with taking each question, one at a time. You might think about investing in a set of service manuals too. I bought a set and they have come in handy
many times. I think it runs about $150 for the set. Also you can go to the search tab in each section. Cecil...............

I would look at the D3Cadillac site -- the list blacked out replace grills and emblems for sale -- I am thinking of asking my Cadillac dealer if they would install them if I order them. Love D3 site just wished then were in New York/NJ/CT/PA area.

I bet you're dealership would. Surely they can't be too hard to install.. It seems like the grille is cake-walk, a couple of bolts and you're good to go. The fender, I'm not sure. Surely we just have to take off the front wheel well liners? The trunk, maybe pull off the rear interior panel and go through that way? When I get my car, i'm going to do a bunch of write-ups and walkthroughs since this website doesn't have any.

I had all of those pieces taken off and painted by my paint guy for 1/10th the price D3 wants for them. Getting all of those done including the fog light rings, emblems, marker lights, head/tail lights, door trim, the rear facia grills, and even my mufflers and tailpipes was only 500 bucks. You can see some small pics of it in my signature, but those don't have my new emblems that are smoked as opposed to just painted straight black. Here is the link to my flickr set also http://www.flickr.com/photos/29560095@N07/sets/72157626694203487/

great job, thanks for sharing. How did you tint the head and tail lights?

The scratching is a very common problem. I've read on here that the scratches can be buffed out. I know after Josh took delivery of his car he had the center console covered in 3m.

As for painting of the grilles I would not recommend it, I own an auto body shop and unless you really spend a lot of time and do this 100% it will not hold and even doing it perfect it will still chip. So if they are sold already black and the price is decent I would go that route.

Plasti-dip. Love my flawless black grilles.

Actually just did that yesterday, how has it held up for you? Plasti-dip held up great on my dad's XLR-V, so I assumed it'll work good here.

That looks good. I've had mine on for a few months but its been a very easy winter here in MA. So not much in the salt test. But its flawless so far.

And since its a coating, if it ever does chip, respray just the spot. But I don't think it will ever chip...
