: Feb. 26 Cadillac Meet @ California Speedway

Hello,

Since the Cadillac Challenge will be at California Speedway on Feb. 26th we would like to see if we can help organize a Cadillac Meet at the same event. For those that want to see some pretty fast Cadillac's on the track or for those just looking to socialize with other Cadillac owners, this seems like it would be a great opportunity for such a meet. We will have a few show cars there on display.

Thank you,

Dr. Design

Hello,

We have spoken with a few of our customers and they are going to make it to the event. So we should see a good turnout of V's on the track. It would be nice to see some of these big Caddies run down in the low 1:5x's or high 1:4x's!!!

Rear wheels made it to my shop today, taken over to the powder coater to get blacked out.
Tires get mounted tommorow afternoon.
Differential cooler finished, registered for the event, and ready to roll.
Should be lots of fun!

Hi Gary,

There is an area in the center of the track adjacent to the garages (North). HUGE space. If you recall the original Cadillac Experience D3 did back in 08' it would be in that same area.

It's just not right, kind of poser/ricey. For the record, I hate "M Sport Packages", "AMG Appearance Packages" and "F Sport" poser stuff. If it's not the high performance model, don't put the high performance models body pieces on it.... but then again, it's none of my business, just voicing an opinion.:D

Dr. Design

The costs are listed on the registration portion of the website. You will need a helmet to race. Go to http://cadillacrace.com/?page_id=31

Also I was talking with one of the event organizers and they are saying if we can get 20-25 cars to show up for the meet, they (The TRACK) would open for some parade laps if time permits. So for those that don't know if they want to race on the track, they can do a parade lap to see if it is something you like for the next time out... FYI, there are no helmets required for the parade laps and you can take passengers as well.

So let's get a count on who is attending and would be interested in the parade laps:

It's all good. Personally, I didnt care for the base OEM look or any aftermarket grills, but the "V" grill is just what I wanted. I'd be the biggest poser if I went with a complete clone look. To each their own.

Question.....can members show up to the event even if not tracking their car?

1. Gary Wells, I'm planning on going, I'm not planning on tracking my car, but might be interested in a parade lap just for drill. Consider yourself lucky that my '87 turbo Buick is in the shop getting rear and front bumper fillers, or I would bring it just to get a rise out of everybody. Not everybody can afford a V2, and we might be turning down somebody that might be a V2 owner down the road.
It's James' show, and I think that it should be his decision, and abide by what he decides.
You might be turning down a future D3 customer.

Yes you can. Please keep in mind it gets windy from time to time out there. So make sure you have some way of securing the pop ups in case there are gusts of wind.

They will have chairs and tables in the area for those that don't want to bring any.

Family environment for sure! There is a speed limit for the pits, but just make sure you keep an eye out for your little ones once the motors fire up.

I believe it's $10 at the gate for every person that shows up.
There's no restrictions in the paddock, or the grandstands. You can also go out on the infield bridge. You just can't walk into the pit area, it's where the cars stage for the next run group.
Speed Ventures allows one passenger, they just have to have a legal helmet to wear.
Speed Ventures does a really nice job of keeping the event moving smoothly. It's a lot of fun.
They also split everyone up by ability level so you can drive at your own pace, and will move people up or down based on driver feedback at the download meeting after the run.

The policy I had on my '04 allowed non-timed track events. But, with a caveat. They covered any type of damage except that with another car. Go off track and you'd be covered.

On my '09, I am NOT covered, period.

I bought insurance for the day. It is almost impossible to find coverage for a "timed" track event. Meaning, if you carry a transponder, they won't cover you. Run the same race without one, and you can get coverage easy. A couple hundred bucks for the event (both days) is pretty nice piece of mind imo.

Did you go through your regular provider or do you recommend a secondary provider?

http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/ - I've used this company for track events with both NASA and Speed Ventures. Personally I think NASA is better organized and managed on the track, and the instructors I dealt with were all very good. If you're spotted doing something unsafe for yourself or dangerous to other cars on the track, passing in restricted zones (HPDE1) they do black flag you and bring you in for a little chat before sending you out again. Post session downloads are mandatory with NASA; you no-show and you don't get on the track next session. With Speed Ventures, much less control, no black flags, downloads not mandatory, no verification I saw on group selection (novice vs. experienced), etc.

Little late to mention but if you're tracking it's a good idea to install some tow eyes in the factory slots on the bumpers in case you do need to get pulled out of some trouble. Better that than letting someone put a hook somewhere under the car it shouldn't be to clear the track in a hurry. Also suggest blocking out your license plate with tape or removing entirely while you're tracking. Some insurance providers have been known to send people with cameras to these events and then checking their databases for customers participating. Couple people had their rates jacked or dropped entirely... FWIW.

Thanks for all the info. Where is the best place to purchase tow eyes for 08+ V's? Good call on taking the plates off!

There is a very good chance that I will not be able to make it tomorrow. I was looking forward to re-acquainting with those that I have met before and meeting those that I have not met, but I don't think that I will feel up to it. I am under doctors care for a heart condition and I have been instructed to change my meds tomorrow, which means that I might have to drive the big white bus. I sincerely hope that everybody has a great time. I will probably be having a Cadillac CTS-V, STS-V, & XLR get together at Cars & Coffee - Irvine a couple of months down the road. I hope that everybody understands. Keep up the Cadillac High Performance image & have fun.

I just wanted to thank the gang at D3 for organizing this. It was totally worth the 5 hour round-trip to meet some of the folks on the board and a lot of the team at D3. It was certainly cool to see some of the hard-core race-prepped as well as the pretty much stock Vs performing in their element on the track. But the best part was hanging out with folks who appreciate what great machines these are.

See you next time!

In the meantime, here is a teaser from just a spectator iphone in my final session of the day. I'm totally re-hooked once again. Int he first one, I get past a Camaro and Porsche. In the second, I'm chasing down an e63 that seemed faster than it should have:p

So how many non Cadillac owners were wow'ed by the performance for the CTS'V? To be honest, in my run group, I think a lot of them were annoyed. M3's and such were getting mowed down with regularity. As a group I think we were almost too fast for the group we were in relative to other cars. What wowed my friend in his porsche was that we would blow past people on the front straight as expected, but even nimble cars like his couldn't come close to making up much ground in the infield winding sections.

Actually, they even lost ground in cases now that I think of it. In the first vid I posted in this thread, I caught him in the infield hairpins and then smoked him through the straight. Mind you, I'm working double his power so it's not an apples to apples comparo. However, he has years of track experience on me and drives near-perfect lines. So, we aren't all about straightaways folks. That course however favors our cars way more than any other will this season I'm pretty certain.
