I understand that the update process takes about 2 hrs. total when the car is running. Can it be done in increments if one doesn't plan driving 2 hrs. nonstop or leaving it running while parked for that amount of time? In other words, can you stop before the process is finished and pick up again where you left off? I asked customer service about this but never got a responsive answer. At any rate 2 hrs. is too long in this day and age.

I've done it twice. I just left the car in accessory mode both times until the updates completed in my garage, but the instructions do say the process can be interrupted and will automatically resume.

You will need an activation number and you have to enter it into the nav system. Don't know if it is a unique number matched to your vehicle or just matched to the disc. Mine also took about 2 hours. I had it in run with the engine not running and a charger connected.

Will it let you do that, or is it a one shot deal???

What are the "radio updates"? Gracenotes?

cruiser68

I thought the activation # was tied to your car. I had to provide the VIN when ordering so they may make the activation code unique to your nav. I don't know if anybody has successfully used an update more than once.

Mine took about 2.5 hours in the garage on accessory with a battery charger just in case.

What are the "radio updates"? Gracenotes? Yes. They have two other updates besides the navigation disc.

Anyone find it cheaper than $199?

Do the updates change the display or any infotainment functionality?

Gracenotes updates are just for the system to auto recognize songs that you import onto the HDD ... that's what gracenotes is all about ... on my pc when i insert a cd while my cd burning program is open gracenotes will automatically open up and scan the disc to see if it can recognize the disc so it can tag the songs as they get ripped to mp3 ... since there's new albums recorded every year that database needs to be upgraded or your new lady gaga cd won't have track names when you import it onto the HDD

Damn that Lady Gaga and her fresh beats!

it doesn't import track names from the host source? that sounds like it'll e annoying in 5 years when the service contract expires for end users..

Each disk it tied to ur vin. U cannot use a pin on another car. U can however try to get a new code from nav disc support. Some have succeed while others have failed.

It takes about 2 hrs to update.....but can be stopped. It will just cont when the system turns back on.

Or, you can stop trying to beat the system and just buy the upgrade.

I'd be interested to know the exact revision of this 2011 disc for comparison.

I think my database version is 14.94.18.051010.24

I updated mine in Oct 10. I'll see what revision I have when I get home.

Does anybody actually import/rip tunes from a disc anymore?? Personally, I use a USB stick to copy MP3s onto my HDD, so for me, I see no benefit in the Gracenotes updates. I do however, intend to update the maps, firmware etc., as my map data is long overdue for an upgrade.

gracenotes works for music from any media.

dealers pay $199 so any price cheaper than that fell off a truck

& then ur still stuck trying to get the activation code per vin#

RippyPartsDept

yeah if your car requires an activation code you pretty much have to buy it from the nav disc center

some people have been able to get the activation code without purchasing a disc but i'm not really sure how

Do the latest update disk changes raise the nav screen when reverse is engaged, for 2009 cars which came without the backup camera?

No. That's an internal PCM switch that you have to turn on.

I have the 2011 Gracenotes disk (25962371) if anyone wants it cheap. Cost was $35 (19.99 + crazy US Mail shipping cost). What's it worth? It did actually update some of the newer CDs I had been using.

Well, I updated my NAV last year with the latest update at that time, and guess what? My screen goes up every time I shift into reverse, as if I had the back-up camera. Go figure .... ?!

That was a bug. It was fixed by an update. Very long thread here about it. Alternatively a dealer who knows what they're doing can reprogram it.

sfv41901

I don't think the bug was fixed. While I was retroing in the OEM '11 camera, I had my service tech use TIS2WEB to turn on the camera feature......after he turned it on, the software in the nav radio didnt support it, so my nav screen went up in reverse but never went back down & the cam screen never turned off, so in Oct I got the most current nav disk. After the install, everything worked just like stock.

So in theory.....if the bug was fixed, my service tech would have had to go back in & turn the cam feature back on.

I'm thinking that maybe the latest update may take care of the problem if it's a recognized bug ... ? Might have to try it and find out, (for $199.00).:helpless:
