: CTS-V coupe in Raven black with satin graphite wheels. Help with dealing with my wife

Happy holidays to everyone,

I'm very close to leasing a CTS-V coupe. I'm considering Raven black over the satin graphite wheels. My lovely wife thinks that the wheels look just extraordinarily dirty with brake dust because they are not actually black. She says it will make me look even more like the nerd that I am.

Obviously, I need some backup. Does anyone have the combination? Of course, I have put it together on the Cadillac site. I just can't tell whether they actually look good or not.

Please help me. Physically, I am no match for my wife. I would just like the opportunity to participate in a verbal argument without being humiliated. Also, you have my word you remain confidential lest she decides to change your mind!

Thanks so much.

Jim

...Tell her the graphite wheels help with the brake dust not being so visible. So unless she wants you out there every other day cleaning the wheels she'll have to deal with the graphite. Tell her its better time managment

hahahah...funny thing, but I agree with your wife! I don't seem to subscribe to the current "black wheel" look either. Perhaps I'm a little bit old school, but I prefer nice, bright, shiny chrome over graphite / black wheels. But then again, I remember when there was no such thing as black wheels, and we called all aftermarket rims "mags".

I've got a Raven black and am considering getting a set of permachrome stock wheels to replace my polished wheels.

Thanks for your input. Do I read in this that if you had your preference you would go with black aftermarket wheels because the graphite do look dirty?

much appreciated.

----------

do you know my wife? That's the same thing she told me. I had a black 2000 8C6 Corvette with the polished chrome wheels. When I brought up buying black wheels for it, I ate with a straw for the next six weeks.

Thanks,

Jim

Here is mine with powder coated Raven Black wheels. They day I bought it vs. the black out and lowered treatment. They get dirty very fast just like the chrome or silver ones. I don't think either one looks better than the other when dirty. They both get dirty fast. I think the black hides it a little longer though.

Personally, I think the monochrome all black look (chrome trim, fender vents, grills, emblems, etc.) has been overdone, particularly when it comes to wheels. I'm opting for a combination of machined, polished, and gloss black in a set of aftermarket 3-piece forged wheels currently being built for my sedan. I've seen graphite wheels on a wrapped car with a matte finish that, to me at least, matched better than graphite with black raven paint. Now my 16 yr old son, on the other hand, thinks all "murdered out" is "sick"...

Just tell her with the CTS-V, you will work out all your testosterone and won't be bugging her for sex. If she is anything like my wife, she will buy the car for you.

Precisely. If it's your car then get what you want. If she can't respect what you want, then she doesn't respect you.

IMO. the graphit rims look better dirty versus polished or painted. It's definitally less noticeable.

I love my black raven with black factory wheels. I get tons of compliments on the car as well. If you like it stand up, be a man and just do it.

My coupe is raven black with the satin graphite wheels and yellow calipers. Everyone who sees it thinks it looks like the batmobile. I like it much better than black diamond. Wheels are very low maintenance to clean. I kept my polished wheels as a spare set, but went for the graphite specifically for the brake dust issue. I was wiping them down constantly. The yellow calipers, however, show dirt much more than the silver. Here's a pic:

you obviously have not met my wife. Not only does she have back hair that makes Greek sailors cringe, she has excellent aim with her both her upper and lower appendages. Once when she was frustrated trying to microwave Cornish hens (some class she was taking) she fired each of them across the kitchen into into the wastebasket without batting an I. So be careful what you say. Should she read this she may well find you.

Of course I'm joking. She desperately wants me to get whatever car I want. I don't golf, maybe have one cocktail every six weeks, work seven days a week and she runs the finances. As she puts it, the only fun I have every day is driving to and from work! Unlike many people, I drive my car year-round because it is so much fun. Otherwise, whatever you pay for car that sits in your garages money down the drain. One of my ex-partners has C5 ZO6 which is I think now 10 years old. It has less than 5000 miles on it. He paid $50,000 for it. He is desperately cheap. I wonder if he's figured out he is paid over $10 per mile to drive it!

To her, my going to a driving school is something she encourages so I can have some fun. We're about 40 miles from the Kentucky Speedway. One of my Christmas gifts is five laps and I suspect a Nationwide car. Should be fun just for how low-tech feels. Although, I understand the Nationwide engines are somewhat more sophisticated than the Sprint cup cars. I still nearly choked when I think about how all the cars are the same body style with everything being the tiles to differentiate the models.

Happy holidays,

Jim

Just put invisible bra and tinted windows a few days ago and escort 9500 ci built in detector. Likes like it came from factory.. will post pics hen whels get on it.

Wow, is that a correct statement.

IMHO, first get some balls...if you can't contend with the heat from your bride on what color wheels to go with, the car will be too much for you to handle too. Just say'n.

To answer the question of color. SATIN black for the pure beast in you or, brushed or polished for the classic in you. Now which is it?

Trionalaw
12-29-11, 01:27 PM
how do you get rid of the chrome accents around the windows and the fender? Were they however lasted or whatever as well? If I had a car that looked at that cool TMZ would need to follow me around just to get the reaction of people who would expect someone to get out of the car and then see the reaction when it was me!

If I can get the car I want to look like that I would probably get divorced and marry it since we are done having children.

Happy new year,

Jim

I have had some painting experience (oil and acrylic on canvas not houses) and call me Helen Keller but those wheels look black to be.

Thanks for your efforts and happy new year,

almost 30 years. Frankly, I married up. She is one of three individuals I have come across in my life who puts everybody before herself. I can honestly say, if I had to do it all over again I would. When I met her, she was just finishing high school. That summer she was driving an Opel Manta. by the following summer she had added a Fiat X19 to her stable. She worked part time at a Kroger grocery store and made incredible money. The following summer, 1978,after we began dating seriously, she sold both cars and a friend of mine who had a sports car used car dealership (where I had purchased a 1974 Alfa Romero GTV, which was a lovely car which never seem to run!) Took her to the auction and she came back with a 1976 Firebird bright red over white leather. So she appreciates cars.

No offense taken, and happy new year,

Jim

Where does one get Black Chrome wheels?

Happy new year,

not sure about what you mean by the colors. I don't see satin black as a factory option.

As far as me not having balls, read some of my other posts. My wife wants me to drive whatever I want. She prefers a black car (I found a red 2011 CTS-V coupe with all the options I want other than a sunroof) but simply worries that thesethat graphite wheels will not be dark enough against the black car. I do have to admit that my testicles have shrunk but that is from estrogen overload. I live with my wife and three daughters and 2 Westies, both females. I shave in the shower and if I see blood on the floor, I figure I have just started my period.

So I think you should understand I just about my wife. In fact, as I am negotiating the deal right now, she keeps telling me to simply go for it and not worry about knocking $10 off the monthly payment.

So I assume if I am looking for satin black, I'm looking at aftermarket wheels?

Happy new year,

Jim

PS: these were meant to be three separate replies. Somehow I screwed up and they became one. Apologies for the confusion.

Where can I get those satin rims for cheap? I have the polished and think they look nice, but really also liking the satin. For those of you who posted pics did your car come with those rims or did you buy them after? and also did you paint your calipers yellow or did you special order them from the factory? Thanks in advance.

Go with Hawk HPS pads, $250.00 for all 4 corners and about 1hr to change all 4 sets. Piece of cake.

George,

Even though I am nearly 59 years old I still think I have reasonably good vision. Those wheels look black to me. If the satin graphite wheels I get on my CTS-V coupe(presume I get the deal) are that color I will be one happy old man.

Thanks for taking the time for the advice and photos.

Happy new year,

I can live with wheels that color. I'm not getting the yellow calipers. I once read where there were performance calipers that were a dealer add-on. I haven't seen much about them for at least a year. You?

Thanks for taking the time with the picture and comments.

Jim ... as to why the forum is combining your posts into single posts it is just a feature to cut down on extra post header and footer junk that would have been repeated for each reply

as long as you're post is the last post in line your next post will be appended to it instead of a new post... once someone else posts your next post will be it's own entity ... but all your posts in a row get merged into one

I just think there needs to be a contrast. The thunder grays look great with satin black. My silver gto looked good with silver wheels but looks awesome with hyper black. As long as you do a contrast you should be fine.

At the top of page 2, you can see that the wheels are NOT black as shown on my car. They are graphite. I posted a pic in bright light where they look more gray. In darker lighting they look black. They look awesome on the raven car. And they don't show dirt. I changed my wheels and calipers after I bought the car- got an awesome price from a forum supporting dealer. Still have the polished rims as a back-up set but sold my silver calipers. I don't intend to ever change back. I LOVE the graphite wheels on the raven car. It IS the batmobile.

It's all about preference. Get what you want, not what the wife wants if it's gonna be your car. If she is buying it for you or something then that's another story, get whatever the hell color combo she wants and be happy with the 556 hp :) I have the black graphite wheels and really like them, I did not use to like these type wheels but it has grown on me and realizing as has been said how much more easy they are to keep clean they are much more practical. I also have the black diamond paint and would agree with those who say the black raven looks better, my truck is black raven and I like the color better. Main reason I got this car is it was in dealer stock and I'm glad I did get it. On the plus side of the black diamond it is more easy to keep clean and does not show swirl marks the way the raven does, plus there is a coolness factor the way it sparkles in the bright sun or under flouresent lights.

^This, I bought a CTSV for my wife and she picked out black diamond tri coat with the satin wheels (I picked out the yellow calipers). Car is bad arse and looks unreal in the sunlight. I like a little more subtle look (not really into chrome wheels on black cars).
At the end of the day get what you (or your wife wants). It's your car and you have to be happy with it. As far as brake dust, can't imagine any wheel makes a big difference. Dust on these cars is horrible!

Oh ya it does make a difference, with the black wheels the dust is much less noticable, with the highly polished the dust sticks out like a sore thumb.
