: Anyone work with Cunningham Motorsports?

Thinking of taking my car there for a tune as they seem to be one of the only local shops that work on LSx cars. Are there other tuners I should look at as well? Looking for a dyno tune.

Ryne @ CMS is a pretty cool guy. They've done a few Vs and do a ton of vettes and camaros. Since you're in Glendale, you should consider D3 in Long Beach. They specialize in Vs.

I would go to D3 for dyno tuning. I wouldn't go to the other place. Never even heard of them.

There are quite a few LS tuners out here.

RPM in Santa Clarita is supposed to be very, very good. Also, Andy at A&A Corvettes in Oxnard (has a V as well).

If it were me, I think RPM (ask for Charlie) would be a very good place to start.

I've dealt with 5 tuners in the past and Ryne was in my top 2 (favorite tuner retired). I would definitely recommend him. He actually listens to you as a customer and seems to genuinely want to please. I know I'm relatively new here, but feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

I've worked with RPM prior. Send me a PM for any questions..

hlantin,

That doesn't sound good. Care to share?

Sure..

Here's my experience...so it could be different for others.

I wish my experience with RPM was positive, but it wasn't. Was basically treated kind of like Curtis but on a smaller scale. RPM is cheaper than the other shops, but quality was poor and the owner (Charlie) became condescending when things weren't working out.

I asked Charlie to install CNC heads/ls9 cam/meth/9" pulley/SS intake & exhaust valves/tune/h-exch. The car just didn't get the HP I was expecting. Car made ~110 rwhp w/ meth and 25* of timing. Just didn't feel right from the start. Charlie said that's all it could get. Brought the car back a few times since it didn't feel right including CELs (misfire). Said that he couldn't do anything else. For the misfire, basically took a look at the tune, did some things and didn't bother looking at the plugs.

I got tired of this, so I had a couple shops (CMS/D3) take a look at the work and tune (just to make sure ). CMS said the tune and install looked off. Went to D3 and they said the same thing. It looked like it was just put together and rushed. I decided to have D3 retune and while at it, install an upper and headers. Upon pulling the s/c, we found what I posted in the link below:

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ted-heads.html (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/2009-cadillac-cts-v-performance-mods/245499-need-your-opinions-these-ported-heads.html) (Need your opinions on these ported heads and install)

The heads (well..based on the link, you decide if it was CNC'd or not). In addition, he installed the wrong main head gaskets (LS3 version - you can hear a clatter in my motor on cold days), some head bolts and some rockers were loose, etc. Not to mention that there's a sh*t load of oil spilling into the valves (partly the reason why the misfire - the plugs were covered in oil - he would've seen this if he checked the plugs).

I went to Charlie and told him what D3 and CMS found, and he denied EVERYTHING!! I provided pictures on a CD and he didn't even bother looking at them. Had an answer for everything we found. He said, "He did nothing wrong and is not out to screw anyone!"

If I had to do it again, I would go straight to D3 where they specialize in our cars. I wasted $$ going to RPM.

Sorry about the long rant...

Interesting...did the heads have anybody's name/logo/symbol/insignia machined in? I think most of the guys who CNC heads will put their logo on it, unless otherwise requested.

Charlie said he has a CNC machine and he did them. I did not see any other markings on the them..

Hmm...I wasn't aware he had a machine. Besides, I thought he was mostly a tuner and mod shop...why would he do the CNC too? I doubt he does enough volume to justify the expense and expertise.
Even if he did, I am sure he would put his logo on them, if they were CNC'd.

Just my 2 cents, as I have been friends with a CNC LS specialist for years.

He said he bought a CNC machine, but it's not in his shop. I forget which city it's in? (True or not, I'm just going by what he told me)

..I know what you mean with the logo.

I really don't think hlantin has any reason to lie about his experience and it is good that he told us or others would be taken advantage of as well. I would stick with the big names like D3. At least if there is an issue, they would take care of it, not deny it and stick their customer with bad work. Just my opinion.

hlantin,

When was this work done? What year is your V?

Thanks CTS-V-TWIN. I've got a 2011 and RPM worked on my car in July 2011. I put about 5k miles on their mods and those heads were brand new.

My experience is just that...and like I said, it could be different for another person..
