My guess is that the torque convertor lockup is sticking... Try driving around in just drive (not overdrive). A trans flush or/and an additive may help.

You need to replace the TCC solenoid. This is real easy when you have the pan off to change the ATF & filter. Takes less than 10 minutes.

Well the TCC problem would be most evident after sustained highway driving, usually as you slow for a tollbooth. The car may also "chuggle" too. Does this sound like your situation?

I may be wrong but I believe its in the valve body (underneath the pump),,, You would have to jack the engine up (or lift it with a cherry picker or engine support fixture) 2-3 inches to get the side case cover off (might even have to take the cradle section out (dont think so tho))...

You never said if you have the 4t60E or the THM440, either way you would be looking at buying some petroleum jelly to coat the new paper gaskets for the VB, might have to replace the side case bolts (if the conical washer is squashed to much), the side case cork gasket, the drive axle cork gasket, rubber/metal gasket drive axle gasket (common leaker, should be replaced too), the VCC sensor/solenoid probably around 30 bucks, everything else I dunno. You can buy everything seperately at www.bulk-parts.com or maybe at your local DACCO store. If you do it yourself Id buy a cadillac factory service manual for your model and year...
