I think I have a big problem here ... I have a 94 Deville with a 4.9 180 000km. Yesterday I went shopping and I heard a big "POWWW" and then a lot of smoke came out from the exhaust. I looked in my mirror and was like "whooaa". There was a big cloud of white smoke. I dont really know a lot of things in mechanic so I didn't touch anything yet. This morning I started the engine and push on the gas pedal. I can barely reach the 20km/H ... I already knew I had to change the spark plug wire but I dont think that would be the problem. Any ideas someone ?!!

Thanks a lot again !

Peace !!

no ideas here , but a POWWWW followed by white smoke indicates coolant made its way into the cylanders , the headgasket for sure is gone , and im willing to bet it didnt go on its own , perhaps a piston came apart and messed up the head....

any leaks on the ground after sitting ?
whats the oil look like ?
coolant levels ?

they way it sounds it may have blown the engine , Dieslow , it didnt live up to the name.....

More than likely headgasket, stoney is right. SOmetimes the headgasket will make noises like that when it goes. Does your car smell like Ihop? And if it is headgasket, the oil will be milky.

probably from lack of cooling system maintenace?

The Ihop reference was mostly because of the maple syrup like smell of buring coolant, or the general sweet smell that dogs are attracted to. Yes, sick people kill neighbors dogs by dipping waffles in coolant. Happens often here in New England.

well normally you dont have a POWWWW when just the gasket goes , ive blown headgaskets under very exterme conditions (21psi turbo)

something has come apart and either lifted the head , fractured the head bolts or just screwed the head all to hell

A guy had a car he brought to the shop like that. It was running fine and then backfired and wouldnt run well at all afterwards. It missed so heavy that the engine looked like it was viberating. It turned out to be a sensor. It messed up the timing. Did it blow white smoke out or was it steam. A headgasket will make heavy white steam when it goes. The only other thing would be a mechanical issue, like a piston breaking or something to that effect.

Actually ... I think it's even worse !! My engine is fine ... well it should be. My wiring still need to be done but the part that broke was my transmission. I saw a lake of red oil under my car ! I towed it to my mecanic but when we took the car off the towing, the transmission just fell into pieces :disappoin

I don't know how much it will cost but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be expensive as hell :crying2:

Well ... I guess that's the price to pay to own a Cadillac ! The thing I don't understand that my transmission never had oil leak of anything ... it always worked well .... too bad ! Thanks for your help though I appreciate it !

Peace !!

That explains the white smoke. It was the transmission fluid hitting the exhaust. I hope they can use your transmission as a core

sorry to hear about the tranny
for a 4t60e if it had been run hard 180000km is a fair amount, my grandmothers went at 135000mi, to use a borrowed phrase it didn't owe you anything.
good luck

I feel it should have lasted more than that. 180000 KM comes out around 111000 miles. My seville has been drove hard from the first mile and now has 202000. It is just one of those freak things that happens I guess.

Anyways, I found one for 650$ :hmm: But I can't belive that it broke so suddenly !! I never had any problems before ... oh well !! As you said Youbetcha77 "It is just one of those freak things that happens"

I hope the rest will be fine !!

my transmission exploded all over my rear window. That was a mess to clean up. Tranny fluid does not like to come off, and it likes to kill clearcoat.
