Sounds like dumb question but

Edmunds has it at 26.0 another site has it listed 31.0

I know I've put in 28 after driving a little bit on the light

I avg 12mpg or so and at 26 gallons that's only 312 mi

At 31 gallons that's 372 and I was sure i'm getting close to 400 mi a tank

Anyone know for sure?

I want to know how much fuel I can actually use planning a trip and not sure how far to stretch the tank between fill ups. I can usually only put 26 in

I have run my ESV with the gas gauge as far down as I think I want to run it and the very most I have put in it is 28 gal.

I have the regular size, and when my low fuel message comes on and it seems to be on E, the most ive ever put in is 21.5 when filling up

On the ESV the low fuel warning cries wolf with 3 gallons left. However, 3 gallons spread out over that huge tank floor is mighty thin, so if you are going uphill or downhill with only 3 gallons in there it may start to stumble. I've never put more than 28.5 in, even filling all the way up to the top of the neck. BTW, I usually can get almost an extra gallon in after the first click-off by carefully/slowly adding fuel with the nozzle pulled out so I can see the fuel falling in. But be careful of burp-back if you leave the nozzle in there and re-trigger the pump after the first click...learned that the hard way.

I believe the owners manual says 31 for a ESV

I have all standard size Escalade's and have put 25 gallons in several times, it's like a game of chicken with your gas gauge. ;)

I am not good with the Chicken thing as I am pulling an enclosed trailer!

That's not an issue for me because I usually have many gas jugs in the trailer, it's cheaper than paying 10 bucks a gallon on the trails. ;)

My ESV has 31 a 31 gallon tank. Its the first thing I noticed after trading in my 2008 Escalade, after filling up the ESV the first time.
