I have been doing a little research on the 2001 STS which I plan on buying soon. I have always dreamed of having a caddy and now it looks like I will. However I am a little skeptical on buying this particular car. It seems that every once in a while when starting from a complete stop the car seems to hesitate a little and give a bit of a buck. I talke to my friend who has also woned a caddy and this also happened to him. Is this common? If so, is it a sign of bad things to come? It is a 2001 SLS with 42000 miles on it.
I got my 1998 STS with 45k miles on it last year and have never had a single problem with the cars performance. I think it's a blast to drive. Since it only does it evry so often, I would think that it might be an electrical issue and not mechanical. The ECM might be have some problems whgich would certainly cause an intermittent problem like that to occur. Have you check to see if there are any service records available for it from past maintenance? That might give you some clues as to how it was cared for. If you can, I would see about taking it to a local mechanic, to check it out. Make sure that they are familiar with the diagnost systems though. If you want, you can check for trouble codes you self. Hold down info up and on/off button. Every light on the dash with tur on and then it will go into diagostic mode. You can then used the up/down button to scroll through the menu. When it says "All Codes?", press the on/off button and have a pen or pencil ready. Write down the codes, and post them on the forum. The codes will show if the ECM is having problems. Good Luck

Welcome forba8!
Here is the link for the codes: It's an older list so they may not be accurate for 01': http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6853
It sounds fuel related to me...not a mechanic so I can't say for sure. Good luck!
