i have a bad taste in my mouth after their body shop wrote a $8000 estimate to fix my $24,000 car that was obviously totaled. I had the car towed to a drifrent alstate "pro shop" to get a new estimate. That body shop told me they are going to work off the 1st estimate. I said "f-it" cuz i was told i didn't have a choice. 6 months later the body shop finished my car, (i had to buy another with my own money while i waited) and the car still had a bent frame, rear end. Wich had to be replaced twice after the repair because body shop didnt put dif in it the first time, and after they replace that they but a bent one in it. The body shop had collected more then $28,000 from the insurance company....

Needless to say 2 years later allstate bought the car from me for $24000, high book the day I crashed the car.
Then they sold the car, as a non-salvage at the bodyshop who fixed my cars brothers used car lot for 20,000.

I went and test drove it for fun, the bodyshops brother told me the car was ment and believed it had never been in a wreck. I asked if he would get me a car fax stating that, and he stgated car fax was a rip off and doesnt show any info the is helpfull in buying a car.
I cashed the check from allstate, moved all of my policys from them to progressive and went a paid cash for a new car....
Calling the people involved in this situation a low life is a compliment.

I do have family and friends in auto body.....one of my friends worked at the shop that fixed my car... hes a good dude....

I just am not in a hurry to have another car repaired again.
GET YO CA$$H and be happy, Your car is a cady so it depreciates like a turd, the good news is you can buy a diffrent one same year for less then what you get cashed out at!

Gotta love being able to buy a high quality auto for 1/4 of retail in just 4 or 5 short years with about 60k on her!
Good luck man and be glad you wernt born a deer!=P

where i come from the insurance companys policy is to total a car that is damaged 80% of book value and they pay full book retail value when they by the car, im not gonna look it up for ya but kbb.com and nada.com should give u a good idea what its worth. The adjuster will do an appraisal on the car with interior quality/ tires/ damage befor wreck/ miles/ features/ and etc. Then they will pay u for retail- (quality of condition/mile penalty)- (you contracted deductable) I would guess the car is worth $13-17 thousand - your deductable. should be a good check,
Pony up a loan for about $8,ooo and buy you self a 2008-2009 with a factory waranty=)

Edmunds says $9531 trade in value.

That is trade-in value, you can't replace the wrecked car for that. You have to go by the dealer retail, by insurance company seemed to go by NADA "Clean" retail to arrive at price.

NADA says a 2006 STS (RWD) V6 with 80K miles and a sunroof has a Clean Retail value of $17,350.

A buyer of a perfect loaded 2006 RWD V6 1SC with sunroof & 80k miles paying $15,000 is a sucker. For that price, there's a 2008 6-speed DI with CPO.

Perhaps you should check autotrader.com, in the Chicago area you Sir, are wrong!

Insurance does not shop for the best deals and pay off that, they pay retail value, if the guy who lost his car has time and does not need a new auto he can shop for the best deal he can find but......

Most insurance won't pay replacement value. With few exceptions, that costs extra.

Document any recent major repairs to the car as well. My ins co wanted to pay less than $10k for my 2000 eldorado conv (w 130,000 miles), but i finally got it through their heads what kind of car it was and they finally agreed to a little over $15k for it. I wanted to keep it, but wisdom prevailed and i now have a mint low mileage Fleetwood, plue $$$ for my wife's 2008 CTS AWD premium ed.

Than I would say you need to step outside of the Chicago market and buy an STS

if they are truly that high..then you have highest used STS's prices in the country

A fully loaded V8 1SG AWD is not even bringing that on a local Caddy dealers lot....

Do you have any pics of the damage? If it's not too bad I might be interested in buying it from you. You'd come out better than just taking the payoff.

Any update on this?

I just bought a 2009 STS Platinum edition. silver, NorthStar V8, only 11,000 miles, 18
" Chrome wheels. CPO good until Jan 2014, price: $33,000. Talk about values dropping like a rock, original MSRP was $75,610!!! I hope i don't hit any deer!!!

Seems 2009 non-platinum, non 1SG are going for approx $27,000. I didn't look earlier than that, wanting to get a CPO car.

Guess I got lucky: $7827 ($6500 est) to replace the hood, right fender, facia, right headlamp (most of the underestimate), V-mesh grille, minor bits and pieces, paint plus labor on a 2005 V8 1SF after a low speed encounter with a deer (maybe 25 MPH at impact?) No structural damage at all, unless the cross member where the hood latch is counts. It was just visibly bent down maybe half an inch from the hood being pushed in and back. Two and a half weeks in the shop (Andrews Cadillac, Brentwood, TN) over the Thanksgiving holidays. Good as new, maybe better; the original V-mesh grille wasn't fitted perfectly flush with the hood where the new one is. Glad to still have it "in one piece". Plan to drive the wheels off it. If your damage is severe enough for the insurance company to total it, take the money and run!

That's not necessarily a comparable car... but $33k is a bit high around here.

Not Quite, they are not the same car. That's not a platinum ed, and its not even the premium lux performance package car. The VIN code of A8 is not the same as my A4. Plus, those are 17" wheels - nice, i actually like them a lot, and had a set on my wife's 2005 CTS, but the "bling factor' have moved the optional wheels on these cars to 18" and even 19". Platinum ed has 18" chrome wheels. Premium lux perf package has 18" polished.

It has heated seats, but not heated AND cooled seats - very handy here in FL!

It doesn't have the LSD, performance brakes & cooling system, nor the heads up display and adaptive cruise control, side blind zone alert, etc...It has the plain (no hand / french stitched interior that the platinum ed has) and mine has an all leather interior, not just the seats. I also have the suede headliner and visors. and, Dark Cherry is nowhere as near popular as silver. It also has more miles but not a huge number more.

I'm putting the VIN here for later reference:
1G6DZ67A890171037

All these items are only in the premium lux performance package and / or platinum ed.

And it's not certified pre-owned with 6 yr 100,000 mi warranty. Mine is also an all FL car, no snow / salt winters.

Those factors make the 8,000 gap pretty much disappear.

Platinum does not have ACC. I think you could get HUD on Platinum after 2007.
