Ok so I was trying to put my engine on an engine stand and I bent the sh*t out of it when the full engine sat on the engine stand. I have all the accessories on the engine minus the carb and the alternator. How heavy is the COMPLETE engine with fluids?

My latest Hot Rod magazine did a test of Harbor Freight engine stands. They put an engine on them and then pushed down on them some more with a fork lift. The cheapo one bent but didn't break but only after exceeding the weight rating. A 472 with accessories and fluid shouldn't be more than 600 lbs but still pretty heavy for the cheaper engine stands. I was always worried the engine would break off and fall on my toes. It was nice to see that they bend but don't break. It sounds like you need a better engine stand now.

Most large American V8s were much heavier than a Cadillac 472/500/425/368

The Cad engines were thinwall castings with high nickel alloy. They are smart and relatively light.

Yer engine stand might be too small.

~625 pounds, dressed - just about the same as the 455 Olds marine engines that I build, and I use a 1250# rated 4-wheel long leg engine stand.
