: Picked up an 05.. W/ Pics.. :)

So if some of you saw my other thread, I picked up an 05 with about 77k miles on it. I talked the owner down a bit from what it was listed at, so I feel I got a good deal on it. All dealer serviced, I have 2 pages of service history from the cadillac dealer.

Sounds like in general these are pretty trouble-free cars. Looks like mine has had quite a bit of work, which I consider that good. The previous owner bought it for a "summer" car in Feb. of this year, and it still had a couple months of warranty. In the time he had it, it's had a transmission, battery, navigation system, sway bar links, exhaust, shift boot, lower control arms, and new diff. Its also had a PCM reprogram, drive belt, and some other odds and ends. The tranny has about 10k miles on it so far. When they took the transmission out, the dealer said the flywheel and clutch were in good shape and shouldn't be concerned about replacement. It's also got fresh brakes.

There are 2 lines on the dealer service history that says "J3480 pump and/or gasket, coolant- replace". This shows up at 28k miles, and 55k miles. Wonder what that means? I'm wondering if I might be able to extract a bit more out of the dealer service records. I don't know if oil changes would show up on this sort of thing, but it appears that the oil has been changed fairly regular, looks clean under the oil filler cap looking onto the heads and the oil was pretty clean for having about 4k miles on it.

Cosmetically the car is pretty dang clean. Its got a few "park by feel" marks on the rear bumper, and some rock chips on the front spoiler, but its not really that noticeable. The leather is pretty clean too inside, with a couple small stains on the suede on the passenger seat.

Overall my impressions are pretty good. Its a good driving car, faster than heck. I can't wait t get some real tires on this thing (has continental DWS on there now), this thing will truly be incredible especially the braking. The nav system isn't the most intuitive but its workable. The shifter is probably my least favorite part of the car, its nice for regular driving. The throw isn't bad, but there's not a positive enough engagement into gear. Plus, it feels pretty sloppy when its in gear, I like it to feel very tight when its in gear. I've probably missed 3rd gear at WOT more than I've hit it, just something to get used to. From what i understand, thats "how they are" and the only remedy is a short shifter.

I do have a couple of issues/concerns with it.

1. There is an engine related vibration. Its definitely RPM related, and it makes a bit of a rattling noise when starting up and shutting down. The engine runs and sounds smooth, it just seems like its transmitting way too much engine vibration to the chassis. I've heard things about flywheel/clutch, or engine mounts. I'd think that if the dealer suspected the clutch or flywheel they would have known about it and done something when the trans was out just 10k miles ago.

2. I think I need a new Nav disc. It plays a DVD just fine, but it says "disc error" whenever you press the nav button on the system. Any ideas where I can get a new one of these? I've read that they are kind of finicky, seems weird that a DVD could "go bad" even if its not scratched or looks bad otherwise.

Here are some pics, freshly washed yesterday.. :)
