I switched a navigation unit in my 2004 ESV for 2005 one, which was easy, obviously. Took it to the dealer this morning, but they couldn't unlock it, claiming they had limited resourses on Saturday to find out why it doesn't unlock. Suggested to come back during weekdays. Also, the mechanic said he didn't think it would work at all because it is a different model ( in oppose to the older unit with joystick). I know it is an absolute BS and obviously he just didn't know how to do it, but what are my chances to encounter someone who does during the week? Is there anything else I should point out to them? Any suggestions or information on how to reprogram this unit? In mean time I get to be without a working radio entire weekend and I hate it.

You need to go to another dealer if this one can't unlock your radio. I wouldn't be bringing my car for service to those people. Every service department has a tech II programmer. It takes about two minutes to clear the vin. Then recycle the key and the new unit will learn your vin and work perfect. I've put an 2005 unit in an 04 and an 03 and they work perfect.
I'll give them one more chance before switcheng.

will they work for an 02??
I've never heard anybody installing it in 02. The unit is different in 02, but it might still fit. The only question is connectors. On 03 and 04 it is a direct plug in because connectors are the same. Not sure about 02. XM definitely won't work for the obvious reason.

Didn't you have to get a new XM contract, or is the XM module seperate from the headunit, which would allow you to switch headunits and keep your existing XM account?
I belive it is the later case. Here is the link to a thread that explains it. Just go to the second page. It is somewhere in the end.

I didn't have Nav in the 04. Tne non TNR is selling cheap on e-bay now that the TNR is out. I would buy it there.
