: Drag racing an E63 AMG

I absolutely slaughtered it! As noted before I'm running a 2.55" upper, W4M tune, airbox mod, and on 295 BFG DR's. The AMG is modded with headers and no cats (loud but hafta admit, it sounds great) and a tune. Mine dyno'd at 535 SAE RWHP, his at 485 SAE RWHP.

With a 1.71 60' I ran a 11.87 @ 119.12 to his 13.43 @ 107.93. I thought he'd be quicker than that.

The DA was pretty good for here, track altitude is 5,225' and the DA was 6,100 for that run.

I got a new best of 11.83 @ 119.49 with a 1.69 60' earlier in the day.

Thanks Jesse, the tune tweak worked, tranny shifted HARD and flawlessly! :cool2:

Nice run man. Congrats. Can't wait to get mine and I plan on doing the same mods with Jesse.

With the times the Benz ran, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a "real" E63.
That's what a E550 would run, so it's probably an E550 with the AMG Sport Package and the owner did the "AMG emblem" mod.
Did it have quad exhaust tips and huge silver AMG brake calipers on it?

Don't know. I never saw it's tail end. :)

It did have all that carbon fiber covers under the hood.

6speeder,

Also congrats. You are starting to become a track rat, as many times as you have been showing up, guns blazing, ready to run.

Thanks, I've always been drag racing in shall we say lesser raced vehicles. How about a F-150 running 12 flat at this altitude/DA? Had people shaking their heads then too.

An idiot would say that corrects to breaking 10s, but it really corrects to a 11.489 @ 122.956 MPH and 11.45 @ 123.338 MPH

Those are all estimates anyway. All I know is that the car is over a full second quicker in the quarter mile now, compared to stock, at similar DA's, on the same track. Having never run it at sea level, stock or not, who knows what she's capable of.

To run a 13.4 at this DA the Benz would have to be able to run a 12.6 to 12.4 at sea level. The 550 has been tested at 13.6 at low altitudes, the E63 AMG at 12.6. Based on magazine tests I'd have to think this was a real E63, not a 550.

If a F150 Lightning, that would be quite easy to believe. If a NA F150, you'll have to tell me what you did to it.

Trapping nearly 108 with that time tells me he spun hard out of the hole. He was trying to get the jump on you and spun bad. What was his 60' time? 2.4? 2.5? That's the tale of the tape right there....but great run!

He got a 2.20 60', But ya gotta love drag radials, I got a 1.71. :)

OK, I hustled you there, it was a Lightning. BUT, at this altitude, it was a 14.5ish truck stock.

6speeder,

The hustle is OK with me, as I was guilty of pulling a hustle too when I mentioned a 10.8 @ 132, letting folks think it was in the V, with no mention of the T. What goes around comes around, right?

please post this on mbworld. those guys would twist off.

on edit: thats nearly 1/2 second slower than any e63 posted on drag times (which is nearly 1/2 second slower than the next slowest)... i suggest the driver of that car, ahem, sucked ass.

Speed Channel used to have a show Battle of the Supercars and had one episode that pitted the CTS-V against the w212 E63.
Lets just say that the Caddy fared extremely well...

Is that the one with Tanner where the CTS-V beat his racing skills and the E63 in every challenge?

MEBBE. Please remember, that NA or supercharged cars lose 3% of power for every 1,000 feet of density altitude. He was down 18+% on that run from a sea level power level. Now I made up for that loss by overspeeding my supercharger. Stock, I would have made 445 actual rwhp at sea level where now with mods I am making a little less actual rwhp here. Magazine tests I've found show the E63 running 12.6 at sea level, drop the power by 18% and a time of almost one full second slower is correct.

Yep, that's the episode.
If you remember the drag race, the Caddy pulled bus lengths on the E...
I remember posting that when it first aired on MB forum. The E crowd was very mature and quite complimentary...
