So 2 weeks ago i came across a smokin deal on a 2005 cts-v and instantly traded my 99 z28 in. I paid 8500 and got 5 grand for the camaro, which had 5 grans in damage done and a rebuilt status. The
Cts had a quiet whine from the rear end which got a lot louder after a few launches in races with a friend of mine. The noise got a lot louder when i was on a trip from bc, canads to seattle. Approx 250kms and goosed it on the freeway when it got really loud! I called the nearest gm dealership and they can put a used diff in from a car with 80,000 kms with a 1 year warranty. Should i have them inspect the car or just tel them to replace the diff?

Replace it,,, they will know the problem as the dealerships are a routine stop for the 04-05 V's when it comes to the diffs'.

And if u get your diff replaced , I would buy a set of GForce axles and have them install em..(gets rid of that obnoxious wheel hop and puts the rear end in less of a risk to fail again.

how much are they charging for the used dif? A new one is $780 USD.

The dealer told me 4000 for a new diff, and 1500 for the used. I might just wait and get a gforce 9" would that be a better idea or just overkill? I wish i could find a cheaper way but i cant find anything :(

Brandon,

I have a rear diff with no whine. When I took it off the car and drained the fluid there were no metal shavings either. You will just need to swap over the carrier arm from your current diff as mine broke, should bolt right off bolt right back on. PM & I will sell it to you cheap.

Your settings don't allow for pms. What's your email address?

I found a dealership just in blaine, Wa that will sell me a new one and install for 2500 taxes in, with 1 year warranty. Is the warranty worth it for a 4th gen or should i just order from gmpartsdirect for 1400?

you are in BC, right? The price in Canada for a new diff is $2200. In the US it's the $780 I quoted. Did your prices include labor? Because either way, it's a rip off to buy one in Canada.

I'm located in Quebec.

New diff will be in on tuesday and im going to have the dealership install it just so i have a 1 year / 12,000 Mile warranty. Good idea? Are the gen iv diffs able to withstand drag racing?

i wouldn't launch the car hard at the strip without aftermarket axles. i have a gen iv diff in my car, and i get wheel hop if I launch hard. that wheel hop eventually = bad news for your diff.

Okay good to know, the car already has a bmr anti wheelhop kit in it and also a pinion brace, do either of those help the diff much? If i pick up sone gforce axles can i stop worrying about the diff?
