: Rear power outlet drainage

09-20-11, 09:35 PM
I powered my mp3 player from rear power outlet.
And even after engine off, it says it is keep charging.

I thought outlet power is off if engine is not on but it seems like it is still on.

Can anybody clarify this please?
I am wondering if it will drain my battery if I don't use car for long time.

Still on. Define long time.. Overnight, no. 5 days, probably.

I've forgot mine back there for over a week w/o starting the car...no issues....drain is minimal....

does it stay on for a min or so after you get out and close the doors? Maybe it is tied in with some circuit that stays on for a few min. Then turns off.

Hmmm when I check the adapter for the outlet, it was lit even after 2 hours. So I guess it is on all the time

The rear armrest outlet is constant on. I leave my mp3 player plugged into it all the time though. Car sits for days at a time and starts with no problems though.

There are two fuses under the hood where you switch the 12v sockets from always on to Retained Accessory Power. In RAP, they will cut off after 10 minutes.

Wow I did not know that I can changed that.

Do I have to install the relay? or is it pre installed so I just change the fuse?

I think you have to install it on the V. Most (but not all) CTS V6 came with the relay. I had to install it in my V. I got it at pep boys I think.

Can you give us more information please?

What relay(model#) should be purchased?

I don't think I have that info anymore. I did it like 4 years ago. But I believe it's the same as the relay that's right next to it. I will look when I get home and see if I can find the part number.
