: 1993 Fleetwood idle issues Wont stay running L05 engine

Hey everyone,

I have a '93 Fleetwood with the stock L05 motor in it. Recently when i start the car it has trouble starting and takes a few pumps to get it fired. Once its running the idle is very very low. Low enough that 9/10 times it just shuts off. If i give it a little bit of pressure on the gas pedal it seems to run fine but once i take my foot off, it just bogs down and shuts off. Also, it seems to be a bit down on power... but that could be psycological seeing as these things arent exactly speed demons!

I just replaced the plugs with AC Delco DP's and the oil with Mobil 1 High Mileage (car has like 150k) and oil/air filters. Car ran great for a couple weeks.

From what I understand, the TBI has self adjusting idle and upon inspection the idle screw cannot be adjusted?

Could it be running on 7 cylinders? it seems to run a little rich by the smell of the exhaust but no misfiring or knocking. How do I check if one cylinder isnt running?

Please please please help me!

to me it doesn't sound like you're running on only 7 cylinders. have you checked the fuel filter and maybe the fuel pump? only reason I say that is because it sometimes is hard to start.

Both injectors working? If it smells rich than you're probably not sparking at all cylinders.

The idle screw CAN be adjusted, there's just generally no reason to adjust it so there's a plug over it....

You said you did plugs, did you do wires? Cap and rotor? Fuel filter?

Take a look at the injectors with the air cleaner off, make sure they're spraying nice even cones of fuel.

Mine started doing that before the fuel pump died.
