: Which is worst? Transmission problems or Trunk Pull Down problems?

Unfortunately my trans in the 1995 Black FWB (Black Beauty) is giving up the ghost I think. That would normally cause me MAJOR annoyance. But the Blue Devil (the 1994 FWB) has a great rebuilt trans in it. I haven't gotten it back on the road since it was hit in the front right during a blizzard a year and a half ago and on the front left by a garbage truck a few months after that. And then when I pop the trunk to get a rag to check the fluids ... no more trunk pull down. Of course both of these would happen at a 11:50 pm!

Well I'll call the mechanic get an idea of swapping/switching trans. I was hoping to get the Blue Devil on the road. Now I'm not so sure as I might just cannibalize it for the sake of the black one. (pretty annoying as I put a great suspension in it too) Now I have to troll ebay and/or fix the trunk pull down.

Any thoughts/suggestions/prozac? LOL

P.S. - The Blue Devil's trunk pull down never worked.

:annoyed:

You're kidding right? Comparing bad trunk pull down to dead transmission? Just crank it down by hand and disconnect it and call it done till you can hit up a junk yard for another one.

rofl.

trunk pulldown motor: probably under $100...like 10 minutes to fix
transmission: over $1000 and many hours.

You can fix the pull down issue for free. Just drill the rivets out of the paddle switch, clean out the inside and reassemble. Worked for me on both my Fleetwoods. Failed on an Eldorado, though. Not sure why.

The transmission isn't a terrible job, but it's time consuming. But if you have a good rebuilt one on-hand, it's just time.

Without the pull-down motor, how are you going to hide the evidence?

Trunk pull down! Drives me nuts. Have disconnected both on the 94 and 93 FWBs until I get time to re-do them both!
Trans have been bulletproof on both!

there are some differences between the 94,95 and even the 96 4l60e trans
putting the 94 into the 95 requires some mods
or youll cook it in short order....sorry to be the bearer of bad news

No big deal, just throw a third transmission in it. At least it's not something serious, like a pull down motor. :sneaky:

But YOUR post said it would be ok with the exception of a silent code. Click Here (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-forum/t-137406.html) to see.

just don't open the trunk.... or if you have to open it, just disconnect the battery first and use your key... open and close then reconnect batt....

all I can say for sure is a customer with a 1994
bought a low miles 95 trans off me and it was
burned up in less the a 1000 miles
my self , I would just rebuild the stock unit for
piece of mind , in the long run, you may just be waaaaay better off
I dont claim to be the no all! ..........

Dave
just plasma cut the rear section about 6" ahead of the tail lights
simply, replace with a good trunk pull down, weld, grind, and fill the cut and then paint to match
and viola , its all good!!....lol

I'm not say you're a know it all ... but it seems that a 94 would work in a 95 with little issue. The 94 I have has been rebuilt... and it seems that for the foreseeable future ... the 94 isn't coming back. P.S. You do know alot!

Tranny problems may cause you stranded in a road but pull down not . It must be frustrating and to make things a bit more spicy if you are carrying valuable items ha ha
Well, so far we have never had pull down issue

I guess I didnt word that very well
I didnt mean to imply you were calling me a know it all
it was more just a disclaimer
but if I remember right the 94 trans wont go into overdrive in a 95
however there is a fairly simple mod that will allow it to work
something needs to be staked in place
if you cant find the info, its been posted on this site many times let me know
I will dig it up

I guess I do know a good bit about this model but Im still always learning

This is the link you posted.

The post of tech info was from 96Fleetwood - not TheFleetwoodGuy. His info in that tech post is correct, your trans CAN be used, but modification is necessary. Swap 'em over, it'll run just fine, and then like the post says, perform the mod to get the TCC lockup to work and allow you to go into overdrive:

An additional wire must be run from the PCM pin TBD to pin TBD on the trans harness for the TCC to work. Also, the PCM must be reprogrammed with ’95 transmission base code.

Good luck, it'll be good to get one of them back on the road. :)
