Hi Pros,

My dealer is telling me that after 4,000 miles I have 20 to 40% left on my brakes. I do live in Los Angeles, and have pushed the car a bit. But nothing to support needing brakes at 5,000 miles.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks Marc

use less brakes?

go ceramic. Hawk makes nice pad, should last a little longer and less dust. I use stoptech(on my RS6) and they bite great, but when they get hot they can squeak on light braking.

Like high performance tires, high performance brake pads wear faster then regular pads. The ceramics should have more mileage.

Unless you're using the brake pedal for a foot rest...get a second opinion at another dealer

48,000+ miles and my original pads are fine. I never had to replace brake pads on my 2005 CTS-V and 6 - Z51 Corvettes 1979 - 2001 (model years). My 2005 "V" had over 70,000 miles and my 1989 Corvette had 80,000 miles. Real world experience; you be the judge.

+1 - over 18K miles on my original pads, mostly city driving conditions and my original pads are still putting out lots of dust, but are fine.

Didn't the 2011's come with maintenance included? Have them put new ones on at no charge to you.

I dont think the brakes are included in the free maintenance... only oil changes

That doesn't sound right at all. I live in L.A. and am not easy on the car at all. I have almost 6K miles on the car and I have plenty of pad life left. Either you are braking too hard and too often or your dealer misread how much pad is left on your car.

Just replaced my 09 OEMs @ 30K miles with Hawk HPS pads for track use (and less dust) and they still had close to 50%... something's not right.

oil changes, tire rotations, cabin air filter. that's what the maintaince program provides.
