: Looking at an 04 CTS-V and require some information

I looked thru the "What to look for when interested in a CTS-V" thread, and noted alot of it down. I also have a few things that I check when looking at a car, such as magnet in velvet cloth on the panels to make sure nothings bondo'd and been in an accident without showing up on Carfax.

I'm currently looking at an 04 V with a tiny bit over 100k. Car was purchased and serviced in 1 dealership in VA... and 100k VA mileage is nothing like 100k NYC mileage. It had 100k extended warranty.

From what I've gathered (not from seller, but from GM printout Rippy here on the forums gave me)
Car has had fuel pump replaced at 98.5k. Looks like the diff got replaced at 24.2k in July of 06. I'm assuming this is latest carrier? From what I read, the 06-07s had latest carrier, but I could be mistaken.

Looks like diff seal was worked on in 08 with 68.7k miles

My main question is... With such a high mileage vehicle, is there any determining factors I could be looking for to see if the car was tracked or abused?

Its a 1 owner and averages industry standard mileage a year, and the price is good... Under KBB.

I owned a CTS (was rear ended into another car and car was totaled) for over 2 years and am very familiar with the interior stuff, the sunroof draining, the suspension aspects, the creaks and the nonsense. I'm also familiar with the ridiculous wheel-hop in wet conditions, although I'm sure its much worse in the V, from what I've seen and read. I'm hoping to never grenade a diff, and will be doing mostly highway driving with this vehicle. Although, it will be spirited.

I'm also familiar with the fact that these cars outhandle many others, and when they are 100%... they are very very truthful machines. Any information you guys care to share would be appreciated. Thanks again.

what are they asking? For that mileage, I wouldn't pay more than $13k.

If diff was replaced in July of 06 it is certainly NOT the latest 4th gen diff part number. The 4th gen diff didn't come out until mid-late 2008; however, you don't see people breaking the 06-07 diffs anyway. They all can whine though and all have terrible wheel hop without aftermarket axles.

Was that '1 dealership' Lindsay Cadillac? If so, I bet it is in great shape. They are the premiere V dealership for service and many people drive long distances in their Vs just to get it serviced there. They know what they are doing.

If the front calipers are gold, then it was tracked. But I don't see why that's abuse. Typically, those of us who track our cars generally overly proactively maintain our cars.

If it had the 6/100 CPO warranty (that probably ran out in 2010), hopefully there are good records of maintenance.

For the price, buy it and replace all fluids and filters...and enjoy. Fix as needed with the $5-10k cheaper that it is than the newer and lower mileage cars.

Thanks gentlemen. I was unsure on what was the latest carrier, although I had read the 06+ ones were better... but not really great either. I don't plan on bolting much to this. The calipers are silver, and the entire car looks babied.

The 1 dealership wasn't Lindsay, unfortunately. It was Moore Cadillac.

Thats exactly what my plan was JDB. I figured having been demolished out of my old CTS, I might as well step up, and with the insurance check, I would be able to purchase the car cash, with no monthly notes.

I have my car serviced at Moore Cadillac and they do a great job. I tried to take my car to Lindsay but kind of got the run around. I would have full faith and confidence in Moore's work based on my experience.
