: This is beautiful. Thoughts on price? Is it a little high?

Hi All,

I looked at the car in the link below today. 1995 Fleetwood, black on black with the gold package AND chromed rims. This car is minty clean and drove like a brand new car. It has 136000 kilometres on it, which is nothing.

What do you think of the $8500.00 asking price? It seemed high to me, but this was honestly a stunning car...not a spot of rust, leather as supple as new, no stains, tears, the dash pad isn't cracked...

Jay, what do you think? You're in Ontario too...I really never see these come up for sale in this condition.

Input is appreciated, as I'm thinking of selling my 1991 to finance this.

For that price, I would want to see the bottom of it. It would have to be completely rust free. Not even scale on the floor pans or frame. The Rust Check sticker is a good sign, and if it has been done since new (and the car hasn't been driven in the winter), it might be worth it. What else can you find in that condition for under ten grand? Honestly, Jim would be better to talk to regarding the price/condition. He's the expert with these. Personally, not a fan of the gold package, but that would be cheaper to change than finding a good set of chrome wheels...

Also 8500 is the ask. Not a big market for these cars now. My offer would start with a 6.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Jason.

Jay, I did look at the underside....looked good, rust proofing all over it.

I thought that an offer of 6000 would be a good place to start. I'll let you know how it turns out!

That is gorgeous. If it's as good as it looks, jump on it.

The guy emailed me to follow up and he said he wants me to buy the car as he knows it'll be taken care of (I drove up in my 91 and he liked the way it's taken care of), and that he wants to work out a fair price for both of us.

I've emailed him and just asked him flat out for his bottom line. I'll keep you posted!

Well, I heard back from him. $7800.00 is his alleged bottom line. It kind of galls me, as I know how much he paid for the car (I looked through the glove compartment and he had all of his paperwork in there) and it was south of $2500.00. Now, I don't expect him to GIVE it away, but only coming down $700 when you stand to make thousands in profit? Come on.

Anyway, I still want it. It's a lovely car. I've offered him $7000...see if he budges. I'll have to sell Edward if I do end up with this one, but I'm okay with that...I think.

See what he says tomorrow!

Ouch. Does he know that you know how much he paid? Use that in negotiations. Not too many $2500 investments return over 100% these days...

Geez! A man's entitled to a fair profit, but 200+%?!? On the other hand, if your didn't know how much he'd paid for it, would you still think it a fair buy?

Yeah, I'd think it was a fair buy if he'd take it down to 7000. Unfortunately in my last conversation with him he said someone was coming to give him his full price. I don't know if that was the case or not, as the car is still sitting in his driveway.

That's what EVERYBODY says. Just tell him you're waiting when he's ready to come back to planet Earth.

Stick with your price because it's way more then fair and they're asking too much. If he sells it so be it. Another one will along. Chances are there is no other person and he's saying that to get you to make up your mind faster.

Itīs funny how sale strategies are the same all over the world. Where I live thatīs a common tactic to keep the price high. Let some weeks pass by and then call him again. Iīd bet He still has the car :p

thats a really common sales tactic to get people to pay full price. its not going anywhere (and if it does for full price, someone overpaid for that car.)
