Why is that? Preference or do they just suck.

The carriage top wasn't a factory option; they were dealer/aftermarket add-ons. When you get up close to them, they look really cheesy, and they harbor body rot (worse than a vinyl top).

I personally LOVE how these cars look with a full cloth carriage top. The colors are gorgeous on this one. I'd have to disagree with the statement that aftermarket roof treatments (cloth or vinyl) harbor rot. I live in New England, HORRIBLE place to live for a car guy. I've seen very very few cars with aftermarket or factory roofs, with rust problems in that area. This includes cars that I, friends and family have owned, cars that I've serviced, and the thousands of cars I've gone through at salvage yards. When I do see roof rot, It's usually on a Ford product from the '80's with a factory padded vinyl top.

wasnt a fan of the c/roof but its grown on me
in my case my cars roof is 100% mint
not 1 broken thread, the ones that rotted were carriage
with sun roof pretty rare,
I like them, dont let it scare you off
I have an offer of 8k for my mint triple black 1995 with 111000
on her , but im not selling just yet,
be patient, youll find what you want
and yes my cars a n/east car with 0 rot..http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v301/hemijimbo/STA72010.jpg.

Why is that? Preference or do they just suck.

Because they're not a factory option, there's a wide variance in quality of materials and craftsmanship. Sometimes they can look OK, but usually they just look goofy. However, it's ultimately a matter of personal preference, so if the look appeals to you, the example you posted seems solid overall.

That Fleetwood looks prime! The seller more than likely has a high reserve price since it has relatively low miles for a 15 year old ride, and it`s condition is great.
When i bid on my '78 mint Sedan Deville 2 years ago on e-bay,i waited right up until the bidding expiration, until the last 10 seconds, and i won it.If you really want that Fleet,do the same, keep checking the bids until the last 10 seconds or so---that is if the high bid is still within your spending range.
It really helps to have a high speed internet connection for those last second bids.
I`d suggest a max bid price, but only you know your spending limit.

The way Ebay's bidding system is set up, the "Current bid" Isn't necessarily that bidders "Maximum" bid. Last second bidding works some of the time, but not all. If you REALLY want to win, deep pockets help. :D

I personally like it. I checked KBB again, and Suggested Retail value with an Imitation Conv Top is $6,910

Thanks to all for the input. I just called the guy to ask for more detailed pics of the top and it sold. He sold it for $5700.
