I just purchased an 04 CTS-V from a dealership out of state. The ac compressor constantly clicks on and off with about a second between. The ac works the best at higher RPM's but never gets that cold and when it's really hot outside, sometimes just blows warm air. I took it into a shop and they checked the pressure and suggested that it might be the Thermo Expansion Valve TXV. The alternator is new, the ac would not work at all with the old failing alternator. I'm considering replacing the battery as just a starting place. Could there be air in with the freon? I would think the clutch would cycle slower if it were due to air. I'm thinking it could even be the ac control unit? Any ideas???

Get the ac recharged first I think it's low. That is what my one car was doing charged it up and works fine now.

The service shop claims it's full of freon. I'll see what the dealer says.. I just hate paying the dealer to tell me something i could learn for free or just to tell me they need to start replacing parts to find the problem..

You better hope it isn't that valve.

From what I recall, service on that part is a real nightmare as you have to remove the interior to get at it.
