Ok guys, heres the deal, I own both a 1988 Cadillac Sedan Deville, with the 4.5L V-8 in it, and a 1999 Ford Escort, which for the official record though is highly modded, and well lets just say this, the Caddy gets it's butt whooped by it, along with my friends 5.0L Mustang... but enough of that, but the point of this post is I will be soon giving the Caddy to my little sister as a birthday gift, but before I do I really feel the need to give this car a serious kick in the ass for it well, sucks currently for "get up and go", the car itself is fine, nothing wrong with it, just that well the damn car is so gutless it's sickening... any one here have some tips for getting this car a little sack?


(Oh yeah for the official record though, the "Scort" runs a 14.5 1/4 mile time, so it's well, quick for only having a 160hp at the wheels, and well I never expected the caddy to be much of compition to it, but I figured that this post would get people to take alook at it and give me some tips, since well not many people have seen a "Ford Escort" rape the hell out of... well anything... either way good luck guys for I have very little time before I will be giving the car to my lil' sister.... thanks for reading my ramble here so ummm... yeah!)

The whole point of Cadillacs is to go slow, so you can show them off :rant2: If you want a speed demon, get a Corvette :nono: and a '88 Deville??? Come on now, thats a classic old man/grandpa car for people who can't tell when their blinkers are on or off, not to mention it weighs a 1/2 ton more than the escort!

Anyways, maybe your sister will appreciate more than you do :suspect:

There's nothing wrong with wanting a Caddy that's fast in addition to all the other good qualities Caddys are known for. A 4.5 isn't a great place to start, I think there's a turbo 4.5 running around though.

you can do a few things to the caddy to have her run better, but a TBI injected caddy is going to be a pain if you are looking for huge gains: you simply won't get them without a lot of cash involved.

1. advance timing by 3 degrees. if you have a modded escort, im sure you know how to do this. with the caddy though, 88' and up requires you to jump the aldl connector to properly advance the timing.

2. cool air intake system helps, but you had better get away from the engine compartment with this. a short ram open element air intake will help some too, but the cooler, the better.

3. an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (FPR) for a TBI aplication may help some, but probably not a whole lot. you will need to get more airflow for this to work (aforementioned air intake??? ;)/ exhaust ).

4. open the exhaust a little. the exhaust is a little restrictive IMO on these cars. you open her up some, she'll have a little more ass to her.

this kind of stuff will help a little, but a stock 88' deville ran a mid-high 17 second quartermile. you may see mid-high 16 seconds after all of this, but it still wont catch the escort unless you give the car to me and let me mod her myself... :lildevil:

have you ever heard of the Cadillac XLR? Perhaps the Cadillac 16? Maybe the Northstar engine? just because they're classy doesn't mean they have to be slow... look at lexus, mercedes, and BMW: now i'm not comparing them exactly to a cadillac, but they're all classy, luxury cars, and we all know they're capable of moving.

as for that escort ....zetec? zx2 or rental fleet 4 door (think youd have to swap in the zetec in that car)? ...must be running that jackson racing blower on it ...
